Guest guest
Hi , Tina here, in response to your question about hearing loss, the answer is YES! myself and all of my family members affected with CMT have hearing loss, ours is so bad that several are stone deaf. As for myself, I have a 70% loss in left ear, and 40-50% loss in right ear. I am told it is caused by our CMT which is Type1B. This has been confirmed by my Neurologist and other family members Neurologists as well. I am 37, and know I too will be deaf someday. My biggest problems now are hearing on the phone, and anywhere that there is background noise. I struggle hard at times to understand and hold a conversation under these conditions, and it's very frustrating to say the least. I had an Auditory invoked brain stem hearing test that was terrible, it showed no pattern for what my brain heard what so ever. The Audiologist said it was the worst results she had ever seen on this particular test. I hope this info helps answer your question. Tina! > Reframe! Refresh! Refocus! As long as people are looking at me I hear them fine, if they turn their head away and mumble forget it, I also turn the phone up all the way. Being type two's most of us are at that age where some loss may be expected anyway, makes it difficult to figure if it is cmt or old age. > > Jim Nash > _________________________________________________________________ > Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN > Hotmail. > http://www.hotmail.com > > > >
Guest guest
Hello the House, I just purchased two hearing aids, I had gone for a long time trying to avoid them , but I drove everyone around me nuts along with agravating myself. I should have done it years ago. I have become so used to them that I often go to bed with them in my ear. I really don't know if it was CMT or not that caused the problem. Both ears follow the same pattern of loss. I told the audiologists that I had CMT and the standard answer was " whats that " . Man, we have a long way to go E ________________________________________________________ Quality sharing of living positive lives with our common disease is our goal! Guest guest
Hi , Owen here, You mentioned " the same pattern loss " would that be in the higher frequency range? Before I retired (Disability) I was a dental technician and we use high speed hand pieces that produced a very high pitch whine. I thought that was the reason for my hearing loss. But? Happy Trails, Owen
Guest guest
Bob, I'm with you. I thought the hearing loss was old age too ! I also have the feeling that things are closing in on me when I am in a store for to long. My husband's idea of too long is 20 minutes. I had surgeries on both feet and am now able to walk with my feet flat on the floor. .... Florida
Guest guest
, You need to find the cause of your hearing loss... Some can be cured with herbs, some cannot. I have undergone 2 operations replacing the middle ear bone which quit vibrating. I tried every herb, DMSO, etc... a very good naturopath even helped but this was one of those things that required surgery... I would suggest having a hearing test to find out the cause, then we can accurately address the problem... Is this all the time? some times? Is it both ears or one? Have you cleaned out your ears? Candled them or garlic/mullein oil? How long has this been going on? I had Otosclerosis Otosclerosis refers to a growth of bone in the ear that develops around the stapes, fixing it in place so that it will not vibrate properly. This fixation stops some of the sound vibrations from reaching the inner ear fluids, causing therefore hearing loss. Stapedectomy Stapedectomy is an operation to remove the fixed stapes and to replace it with a prosthesis. This allows sound vibrations to be transmitted properly to the inner ear fluids for hearing. Nothing I did would fix it... I now hear SO MUCH better. I was doing the "HUH" What? etc. Suzi <dianamagic2000@...> wrote: i've noticed that i don't hear certain sounds like turn signals and when my digital timer goes off. and i say "what," a lot. does anyone know of some herbs that are proven to help hearing loss? __________________________________________________
