We have had this...still unsure of " exact " cause for her...coconut oil

(have used walnut/olive oil also with good results) helps with the

itching. For her, happened alot last year, but is now much less

frequent..however, the " reappearing " rash can last 2,3,4 ish days at

times... For my girl, I do think yeast very likely, and dumping/detox

just as likely too - at the very least, they would be contributing

factors ;)

wishing you the best answers

Epsom salts dry out my son's skin. I try to measure less than a cupful.

Once my son commented about the lumps he was sitting on -- I had put him in too

soon and forgot to mix the water so the crystals hadn't dissolved yet.

He's very verbal so he can tell me when he wants skin lotion. Often I put it on

anyway just to be safe.

We just completed our 3rd round of DMSA this afternoon. I gave my

daughter a bath with epsom salts and now she has a rash on her bottom

and legs and is very itchy. Is this normal? Sign of detox? Thanks

Sometimes the grains don't dissolve all the way and the kids sit on

them. Once our son's bottom looked like it was breaking out in a pox.

Closer inspection revealed it was grain-size indents.

Would you describe it as a risen rash or more like level blotchy skin?

Is it uniform, sparse, isolated? Was this the first time for an Epsom

Salts bath or first time a reaction has been involved? Soap or bubbles

added also?

Detox reaction is possible, but blindly I would have no idea of what

specifically is involved biochemically other than Epsom Salts is

actually magnesium sulfate which might pose some sort of transitional

adjustment.

If the water was very warm it could have been the result of a thermal

reaction, but I think that fades away as the skin returns to normal

temperature. The skin does expand then contract according to which way

the temperature rises or falls. It might be possible that the itchy

sensation is related to that. Pores open and close during thermal

variances.

Another possibility that I can think of relates to chlorine residual

levels in the bath water drawn. The chlorine residual in water can make

skin itchy and dry. Chlorine is a gas and it can collect near supply

valves creating an initial slug of higher than usual residual. It's a

good practice to open the valves for about ten seconds and let that

water drain before you plug up to fill the tub.

Others may have more to add.
