Guest guest
Hi, 7yo ds recently resumed brushing+joint compression after almost 5 years of abstinence from brushing. We resumed this because about 2-3 months back he developed this frequent touching/covering of his lip area using his palm & an OT suggested that we do brushing+joint compression. His hyper increased & he cried/throw his tantrums easily at the slightest provocation after we resumed the brushing for about 3 days. The OT wanted us to brush him with medium pressure at a brisk pace. For the last 2 weeks, he has waken up on 3 nights laughing. When asked to do TEACCH tasks or piano lesson, there's frequent meltdowns & sometimes he will cry for no apparent reason. The rapid touching/covering of the lips using his palm has changed to covering of lips with sniffing (less rapid). He is beginning to mouth toys objects again - which we last saw about 3.5 years ago. So with the brushing, more autistic traits are showing up. Thing is I recall 2 other OTs suggested slow-movement deep-pressure brushing but this current OT is practising it otherwise. An OT once told me there's various versions of brushing+joint compression - anyone care to share the various versions or if there's only one version, the correct version. Thanks G
