Re: Low-carb diet

I've been on a low-carb diet for about two months now, and have been quite surprised by the results. The courses of prenisone I've been on over the past five or six years have put a lot of weight on me, and it just doesn't seem to come off on its own anymore. I'm sure age plays a part in that too.

Before I started the diet, I read all the books and, biochemically at least, the diet makes sense, especially relative to the "why are people getting fatter" thing. I've eliminated all sugar and white flour, and high-carb veggies and grains.

In that two months, I've lost 20 lbs, and that was WHILE being on prenisone for part of the time (despite the aspirin therapy the polyps were starting to come back).

For those who are thinking of low-salycilate diets, it appears to me that the Atkins diet is rather low in salycilates, so that might have an additional good effect.

I am also VERY tired all of the time. I used to be able to go on 6-7 hours of sleep without a problem. Now, even with 8 hours I still feel tired & run down.

.... but I find I am very tired. I don't know if it is just me, or does this condition make you abnormally tired as well?

It depends, in part, what you replaced the carbs with... If you're eating beans

and not used to it, make sure you soak the beans, then dump off the soak water

before you cook them. Some also suggest adding a little vinegar to the soak

water.

I started a low carb diet last week. This morning I awoke extremely

exhausted and started back to eating carbs. Now I have had a gassy

tummy so I took enzymes to help digest the carbs but I'm still

exhausted. Any suggestion?
