Guest guest
I have been battling with our pediatrician about vaccines for our 21 month old and now I have another problem with it.? Two of our kids will be entering 6th grade next school year.? We just received a letter that a DTaP booster is now " mandatory " for all kids entering 6th grade in NYS.? We were at the pediatrician this morning and I asked if we could draw titers to see if they are already immune.? She said she didn't think they could test for Pertussis through a titer but she would look into it.? She then went on to explain how older kids are loosing their immunity and infecting the younger kids in the school....blah, blah, blah,.....yawn...........anyway..........does anyone have any ideas on this?? There is no philosophical exemption in NYS and we certainly can't get a medical one.? I blew it off at first just thinking we could check titers but now I'm at a loss! I figured you guys know more than anyone on this so I would love any ideas that anyone has! Thanks! ________________________________________________________________________ More new features than ever. Guest guest
I know nothing about the laws where you live, but the message that I've copied could help. It was posted on this list a while ago & gives info about getting titers tests through Direct Labs. The message below says that proof of titers are sufficient proof of immunity on school medical forms. Hopefully this can help in your situation. Good luck M. ====================== Dear All: a friend just forwarded this info to share: " Direct Labs (www.directlabs.com <http://www.directlabs.com/> ) is a reputable company that provides lab tests directly to the consumer (ie with no doctor order). They have just now begun to carry an important test that will allow parents to decide whether booster shots are necessary. As many of you know boosters are given only b/c a % of the population will not receive immunity from 1 shot but of course many do receive lasting immunity from the initial shots and do not need boosters. Checking titers is the way to determine whether a booster is necessary (and titers are sufficient proof of immunity on school medical forms). While it would be nice to think that pediatricians would be willing to check titers as a matter of course for parents who are interested in avoiding unnecessary vaccines, this isn't always the case and some parents who would like to have titers checked have been unable to find an outlet to do so. Direct Labs is now making this possible. Great news!! And the service is also available to adults who may need vaccines as well. Please see below for instructions. And share the news with those you think might be interested " _____ Dr. Tenpenny's Website Important Vaccine Information from Dr. Sherri Tenpenny SUBTITLE Dr. Tenpenny Announces: Order Vaccine Titers Direct From The Lab! Guest guest
NYS has a law against allowing DDI to ship kits, so the kits and results would have to be sent to a friend or relative outside NYS and I doubt the school/state would allow the results...
