Guest guest
, We have always in the past, pre-chelation, used food for supplementation. If we couldn't get it out of real food, we didn't - that was our perspective. Unfortunately, I found for my two youngest, and my husband, this really wasn't enough. Because of their processing issues, we just couldn't find food packed with enough of what they needed to help them. I too really dislike all the magnesium stearate that is in my carefully chosen supplements for the three of them. But, they do feel better with them than without. For me that is the ultimate litmus test for any supplement. If it isn't helping, why do it? When my daughter can go weeks without getting stomach and headaches with meals, then I would rather do the supplements since without it is a daily meal occurrence. We are of course chelating the kids. So, I'm hopeful that the chelation will get us back to the point where we don't have to do that " did you take your supplements " routine at every meal. We did get all the supplements in place for chelation, and get their systems straightened out as much as possible. We have started chelation, every weekend, with them. It has been going smoothly. We are using ALA only, every 3 hours for 72 hours, small doses. I have just started something new this week though. I'm trying a BioNutrition Micro Algae BioSuperFood pill with my NT daughter which more resembles a whole food, hoping it might eliminate all the mito cocktail supps she is having to take in the day. The only additives are vegetable gelatin, water and glycerin and four different types of algae which are not ocean farmed but raised in a controlled indoor environment without any pesticides or herbicides. At the direction of an ND, we are removing the mito cocktail supps over a short period as we introduce this. I'm hopeful that it will not just replace, but also begin to heal her issues as we include this with ALA chelation using Andy's method. This is a new thing we are just trying starting this week. I'm looking forward to it, but am cautious. If it doesn't relieve her symptoms like the 20+ pills a day she is taking, then we will definitely go back to that. This weekend's round will include the usual supplementation, but I will try with just the algae after that. If no negatives, then we will keep the other supplements on standby. But, just removing the C, E, A so far and taking this, she noticed almost immediate improvement in how she felt! If all goes well, we will also try, with the direction of the same ND to use this to replace the multiple supplements that my son who is affected is taking. For now, I have added one of these a day to his regime. Even that I hope to eliminate in the end and be back to just to foods without the pills. I am hopeful that this will get us back to a more whole food lifestyle, but I'm not at all disappointed to have ended up with a box full of supplements. Those supplements were readily available, easy to add and did make a difference, even if they did have some drawbacks. The goal is to get them to the point that they don't need to do that anymore, but honestly, after having tried, the decision is we can't get to that point without them. All the coconut oil, olive oil, local honey, kefir, fish oil, nuts and seeds in the pantry just weren't enough. But, I don't even want to think how much longer the road to recovery would have been if we hadn't been using the whole foods for supplementation previously. They really were just maintenance though, not improvement. Just couldn't get enough without the pills. Guest guest
I definitely will. If the algae works like we suspect, it should make life much simpler while recovering. Guest guest
Thank you for your input. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one paranoid about every little thing that is " edible " but not " food " . I mean, I feel that if I ignore the magnesium stearate, then I'm just not up to par on where I want to be...crap free. > > > > > > , > > > > > > We have always in the past, pre-chelation, used food for > > > supplementation. Guest guest
i think more than a few people try to avoid it or minimize it, at best. This is a bit of a mystery, as far as exposure risk goes. Check the archives for old threads on the subject. > > Sorry if this has been asked before. > > I noticed that many of the supplements contain magnesium stearate. While this might be okay in small quantities, what about those who are taking many supplements each day. I am guessing their exposure to magnesium stearate would be really high. From what i have read, there is no proven toxicity in normal doses, but when there are high doses of many different mag stearate-containing supplements involved, it is something to be concerned about? > > Is anyone avoiding mag stearate? >
Guest guest
Totally. Avoid as much as u can, sometimes there is no way around, but let it be a minimum. Sorry l can't give a link right now, but l have read several times that It accumulates in kidneys due to physical similarity to chalk... Guest guest
I know at Quantum Light Nutrition (http://quantumlightnutrition.com/item.asp?PID=305), they're big on avoiding magnesium stearate. This is a copy/paste from their site with regard to one of their products: No magnesium stearate, a toxic oil proven to suppress the immune system. They will be glad to discuss it with you if you contact them. I went through my lists of supplements for my dds (which was getting way too long & way too expensive), and will not re-order any with that ingredient. Any important ones, I'll find without it, and it will help me trim the list. > > Totally. Avoid as much as u can, sometimes there is no way around, but let it be a minimum.
