Originally the DAN dr we worked with prescribed it (1mg)for our son to

help with concentration ~ did nada. We have tried it for sleep - he

wakes in the middle of his cycle, did nothing for him even with going

up to 3mg. But then again, my child gets hyper on melatonin. I've

read about some parents have a lot of success with it, tho. You need

to be careful, IMO, b/c it is a blood pressure medicine for adults.

My son has been on clonodine for 1.5 years. it has helped us immensely. He was

not sleeping and therefore his behavior during the day was out of control. By

getting a good night sleep, he was able to completely change and now has no

behaviors.

We have used Clonidine for sleep for our six year old son. I honestly have to

say that I used it maybe 3 times. It was prescribed by my sons first neuro when

I complained of his erratic sleep patterns. It DID work. We even used

clonidine when we were getting his eeg electrodes attached (very sensory and a

fighter during this). So, I'd have to say that we definately saw the benefits.

At the time I felt as though I was " overloading " his little system with meds and

decided not to use it very often. Now that he is on Keppra we have no more

sleep disruption except for on a rare occasion. The times that I did give him

Clonidine it took about 20 minutes it to take effect. My son never did have

issues falling asleep, it was waking in the night and staying up for hours on

end sometimes.
