Guest guest
My gues is that with a lot of antiviral medications or supplements, you build a tolerance if you take it on a continuous basis. Guest guest
Lysine and Arginine are in some way antagonists - or they compete for the same cofactors or something like this. Anyway, too much Lysine and you reduce the effectiveness of your Arginine, and Arginine is essential for proper immune function. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I know that you should not compromise your body's ability to utilise Arginine, or the levels of Arginine for too long. A couple of extracts of variable believability are attached which relate to Lysine or Arginine... Don't take any of these as gospel. n -- L-Lysine - 500 to 1000 mg up to 3 times daily when active herpes infections are present. It is very important to avoid chocolate and most kinds of raw nuts that are high in L-arginine, an amino acid that stimulates herpes virus replication. HHV-6A is in tthe herpes family and this is a very dangerous virus. As a general rule, avoid taking more than 500 mg every day of any free form amino acid, except for short durations for special needs. -- Nutrients particularly needed by the immune system when a viral infection is present include thymus extract, glutamine, arginine (overbalanced by lysine to discourage the herpes family of viruses), zinc, selenium, Vitamins A (or beta carotene), C, and E.. The various plant-based antioxidants are also helpful (grapeseed extract, pycnogenol, bioflavonoids, etc.). -- Note: The amino acid L-arginine enhances growth of the thymus gland. Also supportive is zinc (especially zinc sulfate). L- arginine has been avoided by persons with herpes as it activates the herpes virus. However, if the herpes virus can be controlled byy other means, then 500 mg daily of L-arginine could be very beneficial in immune reconstitution. Chocolate is a source of free-form L-arginine. Note: taking more than 500 mg daily of L-lysine is not advised long term due to its antagonist role with L-argginine. -- Metabolic Manipulation to Counter Ammonia Excess. Lower dietary protein intake. Clean up the gut, correct dysbiosis, or treat bacterial infection. Give alpha-ketoglutaric acid, 1000+ mg/day. Ensure adequacy of all nutritional cofactors, especially MMg, Zn, B6. Arginine may be helpful, especially if lysine is elevated or if a urea cycle enzyme is weak. Benzoate salts can be useful in severe cases (lowers glycine by forming hippuric acid). Ensure that aluminum exposure does not occur. Assess Al level (hair, urine, blood. Increase intake of pure, fresh water. Give medical foods for general detoxication. Give specific foods or supplements for urea cycle disorders. -- Marra (Brooklyn, NY) told me that taking 1000 mg of the amino acid, L-Lysine, reduced his swollen lymph nodes. He reported that when he stops the L-lysine, the soreness in the lymph nodes comes back. A letter published in The Townsend Letter foor Doctors (June, 1996) by a CFIDS patient states that taking 2000 mg of L-Lysine daily for several months lead to a remission of all symptoms. If L-Lysine inactivates HHV-6A, the primary virus involved in CFIDS and involved in all cases of AIDS . -- At 00:14 30/01/01, you wrote: >Anyone know why it is not advisable to take Lysine on a continous basis?
