Medical expenses must be a certain percentage of earnings, don't they? I

mean, to be worth it, I would have to spend in the thousand's in order to

deduct it......we don't have any other medical expenses, as is dually

covered under dh's company plan, plus his Medicaid waiver.

Just wondering,

, Won't Medicaid pay for his food? They pay for his liquid food don't

they? I'd fight for that one.

,

We itemize and I include all of the things I buy for Seth. Toys included!

We put them under therapy objects and save the receipts. Our tax lady says

as long as we can prove that Seth needs them to learn, they are legit. We

claimed his wagon...for learning stop and go, back and front, in and out. We

claim every piece of Velcro, clear contact paper...everything.

To take a medical deduction, you need to have bills over 7.5% of your

adjusted gross income. The amount over that 7.5% is deductible. You can

also count mileage to and from therapy, special schools, the cost of summer

camps, special conferences, etc. The IRS has a publication listing all the

things that are considered a medical cost. Bev mom to Craig, 16,

Medical expenses can be itemized to the extent that they exceed 7.5% of your

Adjusted Gross Income. Travel expenses to and from specialized medical

treatment are also included as medical expenses. I will review my textbooks

and provide you with more detail.

My son does not have a diagnosis, but I did have to stay home with him

this past year because of his medical needs. Are there any tax

deductions that can be taken besides medical expenses? Any help would

be much appreciated. Our taxes need to be done by Wed of next week.

Thanks in advance.
