Guest guest
For tinctures, I make em like I cook ... hardly ever measure... lol.. about 1-2 inches over the top of the herbs for liquid.- this is not an exact science... give or take some..on amounts. you can use either powdered or cut and sifted... salves are easier on powdered.. but can be done with c/s... Just remember that if you are using both in the same recipe.. that the powder is more than the c/s.. due to the reducing down to a powder... (and you just have to guess the amount) If you have a jar that is 1/2 full of herbs... 1/3 of 1/2 the jar will be ACV and the other 2/3rd of the 1/2 jar will be alcohol.. actually a little more on both to cover the herbs. Have I confused you yet? SuziToni <tone102@...> wrote: Good Morning Everyone, I pray this Friday finds you all well. I am going through the files and looking through all the many wonderful herbal combinations but I do have questions. How does one determine the amounts of liquids or herbs to be used in a particular recipe? For instance, there is the Lobeila that states 1/3 rd ACV to 2/3 rds vodka. Also there was another recipe I saw that noted the herbs and their completed ounces. So my question is how does one determine the right amounts. Lastly, I saw when looking at herbs online that there is the powdered form which is obvious to me and then c/s. Am I to assume that unless a recipe states for the herbs in powdered form, I am to use them whole? Thanks so very much. Wishing all a beautiful day Blessings, Tone
Guest guest
ok , you have a jar... you have it 1/2 full of herbs (sort of compacted).. now you take the vodka, everclear, .. pour it about 1-2 inches above the herbs.. .. you're done except for shaking the jar every day and then straining in a couple weeks or longer.Toni <tone102@...> wrote: Have I confused you yet? Suzi Suzi, LOL I was confused to start with heh. Thanks so much for explaining this not that I can understand the cut and sifted part but at least now know what the c/s stands for. I think I really need a visual and tutorial here I'm going to read your post over a few times with the hopes of it sinking in. Guess I need to get some herbs and start experimenting Is there a good first book on this that you would recommend. Thankyou so very much for always being so helpful. This truly is a wonderful list and group. Tone
Guest guest
Super tonic or complete tonic and either echinacea or astralagus... if you're making singles either form ... c/s is probably better as it is probably fresher (but not always so).. Super tonic you can get just about everything at the grocery store. but make sure the acv is organic/raw.. like Braggs or Spectrum. not the stuff the regular grocery stores carry. I figure the question would be what is my goal... right?? well.. just to get healthy.. lose weight.. for now.. hehe that is everything right there huh?? i know if i do what needs to be healthy the weight will come off.. so lets start with health... there is a small metaphysical place near me that used to carry bulk herbs of all kinds.. what would you suggest I get first? List a few firsts I guess...please... the essentials...and how much of each approx... you mentioned powdered will work as opposed to the c/s.. is there one better then the other??
