Guest guest
General Diverticulitis InformationDiverticulitis is a disease that occurs when small, pouch-like formations develop on the wall of the colon and become infected and inflamed. The pouches, called diverticula, often form with frequent constipation because of the increased pressure needed to force hardened stool through the bowel. Diverticulitis can be acute or chronic and is often painful. Older people are more prone to developing diverticulitis due to the natural weakening of the intestinal wall that occurs with aging. Possible Causes of DiverticulitisDiverticula form in the colon when pressure increases and irritates weakened areas on the colon wall. Diverticulitis occurs when bacteria become trapped in the divertiula, causing inflammation. Diverticulitis is seen most often in developed countries where low-fiber diets and highly processed foods are common. Stress is also a major contributor to the condition. The best way to prevent and control diverticulitis is to consume a high-fiber, low-carbohydrate diet and drink plenty of water. Exercise may help prevent and alleviate symptoms. Apply a heating pad to the abdomen and use an herbal pain reliever to ease cramping and pain. Beneficial Dietary SupplementsPrimadophilus Bifidus helps maintain the proper intestinal flora in order to improve assimilation and elimination.Fiber helps prevent constipation and prevents infection by assisting in elimination.Bentonite Clay may assist in the healing of the intestinal walls.Vitamin B-Complex assists in all enzyme systems and proper digestion.Broad-spectrum Enzymes assist in breaking down proteins.Essential Fatty Acids protect the cells lining the colon wall.Garlic aids digestion and destroys unwanted bacteria and parasites.Pau d’Arco has an antibacterial, cleansing and healing properites. Guest guest
what exactly is diverticulitis? I know someone that had it and I remember it was no fun, but she had some operation to help it and she is now working again and in seemingly good health. The only thing I am plagued with from time to time is pancreatitis and that's only if I indulge in something very rich, like ice cream, before bed time. It is excruciatingly painful and once had to be hospitalized for it, but now I know not to do the things I did that bring it on. Hope you find a way to relieve this problem. - Lynne A. Guest guest
Hi: Inflamed diverticulum, I think, and infected. They are dangerous if they break. I read they can cause peritonitis. Mine seems to have been caught soon enough. Antibiotics seem to have brought the fever and pain down. I had the catscan this morning. I feel much better. Avoid those rich foods!
