Guest guest
Most people have at one point in their lives gone out on a drinking sesh with their friends and woken up the next morning with carpet tongue, a traffic cone and back ache... For the fur I suggest 1/2 bottle of listerine; I can't do anything about the traffic cone, but I can say that the back pain is either the result of falling in a hedge on the way home or because your kidneys are having trouble dealing with the alchohol. Your kidneys are responsible for regulating blood volume and pressure, conserving nutrients and detoxifying poisons. They do this by regulating the amount of water you retain, checking what ions (like sodium and calcium) go into your blood, and filtering out poisonous nasties like vodka & coke. High Blood Pressure:You may have heard at some point that the toxic plant mistletoe is used in modern medicine to help control unhealthy blood pressure. I certainly don't suggest you go off and munch any of that though! Instead I recommend a regular but moderate intake of the common herb rosemary. You can make a fabulous tea from it, as well as eating it with your food, it is also rather energising so it would best not to have it before bed if you want to get any sleep! Try putting a little cayenne pepper on your food, and include a decent dosage of garlic too, you could even take those little garlic capsules if you aren't too keen on the taste. Kidney StonesKidney stones happen because your kidney isn't able to process the calcium going into your body; a 'kidney stone' is really a small rock of hardened calcium. Diet wise, it is best to cut out calcium and sodium rich foods and drinks, even some of those fizzy mineral waters have loads in them so read the label! Parsley, raw or taken as a tonic/infusion may offer some helpful properties. Inflammation (nephritis)There are loads of different causes for nephritis, although they are rarely viruses except in the case of STDs. An infusion of young birch leaves can help in the latter case. For other causes I recommend chewing on some dill, orris root, or parsley, aswell as taking those three in tea or other palatable form 1-2 times a day. Try to drink clean water where you would otherwise have had another less plain drink. As with blood pressure, cayenne has been known to help with nephritis, it is a diuretic. Perhaps the most familiar remedy will be cranberries, the juice is gorgeous, but you can eat them in both sweet and savoury foods; they are best known for relieving symptoms of cystitis. PoisoningCurrently the only suggestion I have for poisoning, apart from rest and sipping small amounts of water, is coriander; specifically in the case of food poisoning. Apart from that, I always find that mint helps with the nausea, a slowly taken mint tea is good. Peppermint is the most effective. http://ayla.brinkster.net/Kidney.asp Suzi Senior Moderator What is a weed?
