Guest guest
Were they dry gabanzos? I soak minimum 8 hours, rinse, sprout until they have tails and THEN I make the hummus. The recipe looks okay, I think you just didn't handle the beans correctly. Later I'll post the recipe I got last night for raw hummus as well as raw baklava that is mmmmmmmdelish! Guest guest
i think suzi said in a post that you have to bring water to a boil and throw the beans in for 1 minute to take care of this problem. Guest guest
if you soak them for a couple days (rinse drain and soak)... you won't have to.. if you're only soaking them for 8 hours ... this will do it.. when the water boils, turn it off ... throw beans in for about a minute....drain.. Guest guest
> I made hummus this morning and it is awful. I'm hoping > someone here can tell me what I did wrong. Have you ever had hummus before? Did you know what to anticipate? If you got the beans out of a bag and had to rehydrated them, they were dry. <snip> > The beans were still pretty hard this morning. My first > thought was that there was too much garlic but it's not > the garlic. It is the " dry bean " taste. Is it the taste or the TEXTURE of the bean that you find strange? Perhaps the taste of garbanso beans is a taste you might have to build up to. I like garbanso beans but they don't like me. Neither do soy or lentils. Other beans I have no problem with. That might be my blood type speaking. Given a choice though, I'm a baba ghannouj girl myself. In the future you could try making hummus with a different kind of bean. Guest guest
If they were dry, they were raw. If they were soft they were cooked. How did they come? In a bag or a can? Can - cooked. I've since thrown away the label . . . I was sure they were raw . . .Donna> Were they dry gabanzos? I soak minimum 8 hours, rinse, sprout until they have tails and THEN I make the hummus.
