I Saw this on another site and thought you would want to know It certainly makes me wonder. Make nut milk for your family.

ShariI heard recently about 8th Continent soymilk having animal ingredients when I was doing some research on Vitamin D fortified foods. Here is the article I read about 8th Continent:http://www.vegparadise.com/news19.htmlI found it hard to believe that companies would make soy milk with animal ingredients, so I called the 8th Continent customer support line (1-800-247-6458) to check it out. Turns out that the claim is true ... 8th Continent uses vitamin D3 (animal origin) rather than vitamin D2 (plant origin). At first the person I talked to on the phone said all the 8th Continent ingredients were of plant origin, then when I told her about the article I read she did a little more checking and confirmed it was fortified with the animal-based D3. She seemed genuinely surprised.I politely told the customer support person that I would not be buying their product because of this and suggested they switch to Vitamin D2.I am now checking all the products I eat that just say Vitamin D on the label to make sure they have vitamin D2 instead of D3.And although I agree with those who have commented that seeing "Vegetarian" on the label ought to mean we can consume the product without worrying about animal ingredients, apparently this is not always the case. Refer to the link, above.
