There is an enzyme in soy that prevents the digestion of proteins, a protease inhibitor. Fermentation denatures that protease inhibitor. Tofu and soy milk aren't fermented. Miso, tamari sauce, and tempeh are. I've never been able to eat tempeh without a problem myself though. Even with digestive aids, soy milk is too energetically cold for my system.
