Guest guest
Good Morning, In regards to the Vitamins mentioned and surgery, I had not heard that VItamin E should not be taken but I came up with a couple of things here. Hope this information helps and is valid.Wishing all a beautiful day! Blessings,Toni {Q: Gingko & Vitamin E/Surgery Does anyone know how long a person would need to be off of Ginkgo Biloba (60 mg per day) and Vitamin E before sinus surgery to remove polyps? Is there any research about this? Or further information? Thank you} {A: Ginkgo I am not sure that you have to be off vitamin E at all before surgery. I have a colleague who does heart surgery and he has not stopped patients from taking vitamin E prior to surgery, and has run into no complications. For Ginkgo, I would recommend about a week to 10 days, although this is not clear in scientific studies. Janson, MD} {Drug interactions } {Individuals on anticoagulant therapy (blood thinners) or individuals who are vitamin K deficient should not take alpha-tocopherol supplements without close medical supervision because of the increased risk of hemorrhage (3). A number of medications may decrease the absorption of vitamin E, including cholestyramine, colestipol, isoniazid, mineral oil, orlistat, sucralfate, and the fat substitute, olestra. Anticonvulsant drugs such as phenobarbitol, phenytoin, or carbamazepine may decrease plasma levels of vitamin E} I have heard that before surgery, no Vit E should be taken as it thins the blood.AnneSuzanne wrote: In large doses gingko can cause bleeding.
