Guest guest
I'm sure this isn't quite what you're looking for, but I'll share it as an option anyway. I use apple juice. I drink a quart of it every day anyway because the malic acid is reported to help dissolve gallstones. So generally on the day of a flush I will double that and it works very well to loosen and get things moved out. I have done the flush with the Epsom Salts, but much prefer it without. I know that they are reported to have other uses in addition to being a laxative, but I have found the flushes to be effective for me without them, so after experimenting in different ways, apple juice is my personal choice. It works for me. If you're looking for a particular pill/supplement to take I'm sure you'll get other ideas from other people. in health, rachel~ JWo8809899@... writes: > I was wondering if there are other kinds of laxatives that can be > used with the H. liver flush other than epsom salts? Guest guest
Cascara Sagrada is a natural herbal laxative, or combination called LBSII that I use that is a little midler, but I have learned from this group that Epsom Salts also help to relax the ducts for a good flush, and must say that it made a big difference. Years ago when I first did this, I used Epsom, then thought that I was pretty smart when I changed over to Cascara Sagrada as I learned about herbs (I'm really into herbs :-), and though I did pass things in my flush, it was not as pleasant and I didn't pass much. Perhaps taking magnesium would help if you used another laxative, but I haven't ever tried to figure out how many mg. of magnesium is in Epsom Salts. L. Guest guest
Not so much an answer to the original question as to the reply. According to Agnes, half of the salts is magnesium. Still according to Agnes, half a teaspoon of Epsom salts is about 2 grams, that is 1 g of magnesium. According to other sources, magnesium sulphate has a rather poor absorption of magnesium (unlike magnesium citrate): 1/3 of the magnesium is absorbed. So when you take 1 teaspoon of magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts), something like one third of 2 g of magnesium is absorbed. I don't really know what happens when you take Epsom salts above the laxative threshold (at least more than 1 teaspoon). Someone (not here) claimed that irritation of the gut lining is the most important reason for the laxative effect. But the magnesium level in the body is regulated by the kidneys, and the kidneys deal with stuff that has already gone from the gut to the bloodstream. I think that you can have dirrhea when there's too much magnesium for the kidneys to handle, although I don't know the mechanism (magnesium stopped being absorbed from the gut to the blood when there's enough of it in the blood already, according to the kidneys?). If the right muscles are relaxed, perhaps that effect will also contribute to the (re)laxative effect. An Internet investigation would probably reveal all of this..., or perhaps someone here even knows already :-). It's not something that you can know intuitively without having sufficient insight into how the body works in this area. Probably, I think, only a small portion (if any?) of the salts is absorbed, while the remaining portion continues straight through the intestines. This is for people who eliminate liquid after drinking the Epsom salts; it seems that some people absorb more of it than others? For smooth muscle, including those responsible for the bile ducts, to be relaxed by the magnesium, it must be absorbed. Taking another laxative and a couple of magnesium capsules should be enough for the relaxation, I suppose? But if I'm not mistaken some people suggest that the magnesium has other effects as well, relating directly to the function of the gall bladder. I didn't get the full story on that one. -- Helge >Cascara Sagrada is a natural herbal laxative, or combination called >LBSII that I use that is a little midler, but I have learned from this group >that Epsom Salts also help to relax the ducts for a good flush, and >must say that it made a big difference. This could be a valuable aid to dissolving gallstones if taken regularly. Any information on side effects? --------------------------- IRA L. JACOBSON --------------------------- mailto:laser@... The chiropractor that I went to years back gave me that one time, maybe Standard Process has it?? but I didn't like it, it burned my stomach, but maybe others wouldn't mind. I think I might have seen it in my Puritan Pride catalog as well. Maybe in smaller regular dosage with food it wouldn't burn so much. Prefer just the apple juice w/ beet juice powder price-wise, or Standard Process's Betafood...you have to take about 45 Betafood a day for 5 days...some say 7, five enough for me. L.
