Guest guest
First...a public apology to Vince for reading his message in the wrong way. I should have known from previous messages that he wouldn't be intending it in the way that I perceived it. I also should know that when something hits me the wrong way it's a good idea to wait before responding and come back to it later. Second, thank you to all who did respond to it. My general feeling about that link was that it wasn't too legit. I would trust the words of someone I know, like Schulze before the words of someone I know nothing about. (well, I don't know him personally, but I'm familiar with his work.) And yes, common sense comes into play along with each person making an individual choice about what is good for his/her own body based on personal experience. I did ask the person for further information on how he discovered that garlic was hindering his immune system. With all due respect (he's not on this list), his response was that he's kept records of his health and what he eats for several years now and he noted that 5 out of the last 6 colds he had started after he ate garlic. And that now that he's stopped eating garlic he only gets about one cold a year. He's evidently using garlic as the determining factor - not any other lifestyle changes he may have made during that time. He also says that another reason you shouldn't eat garlic is because anything that isn't delicious in it's natural form isn't considered food. Well - I don't think olives are delicious.... or bell peppers or prunes or cherries or asparagus....... but that doesn't mean that they aren't food. I don't think basing the definition of " food " on taste is sensible at all. I respect people's right to make their own choices about what they wish to consume` but this guy and I are on totally different planes in that regard. So I take that into consideration with anything he might share. Like with any list - take what you like and leave the rest. Now about that garlic - I appreciate all the feedback, and I especially think the post that someone sent (I'm sorry I don't' remember who) about " bread - the other side of the story " was great. You could fill in the blank with just about anything. In fact...you could make an argument for BREATHING being bad for your health. (After all, if a person stopped breathing when they were young, they would never have heart disease, cancer, kidney failure, arthritis, dementia....you name it! So, every day that we breathe is one day closer to the end of our lives as well. I do appreciate this forum for airing things out. I hadn't given a lot of validity to the link when it was given to me, but it still helps to hear what other people think. Someone on another list asked the question of whether too much of any particular enzyme could be bad for you, because they had eaten a lot of papaya and found that the enzymes were eating away at their duodenum. Well, yeah, too much of anything is...too much. And if something is eating away at you, by all means, stop consuming it! But just because something (like garlic) gets a bad report from someone else, doesn't mean it's bad for the whole human race. I think the bottom line is information, moderation and consideration of what one's own body is saying. That's my rambling .02 for the day! rachel~
