Guest guest
Hello flushers. Here is one thread of Liver Flush discussion. If anyone of you have time, why don't you contribute with your story ?.. Few interesting stories and opinions from: http://forums.about.com/ab-altmedicine/messages?lgnF=y & msg=1791.1 Hot Topics - I Tried a Liver Flush Subscribe From: (AB_ALTMED) 4/18/2001 1:53 pm ALL (1 of 52) 1791.1 Last summer, I tried a liver flush. It is a traditional home remedy for removing fat-soluble toxins such as pesticide residues from the body and has also gained immense popularity as a treatment for gallstones. But I learned that the green balls that most people pass may not actually be gallstones. It is also potentially dangerous for people with gallstones. Read the full story: http://altmedicine.about.com/library/weekly/aa041701a.htm Have you tried a liver flush, or a similar method of detoxification and would like to share your thoughts? Are you thinking of trying one? From: LOVERIOT 4/18/2001 4:42 pm (AB_ALTMED) (2 of 52) 1791.2 in reply to 1791.1 eeeew, I just the read your article. I've never tried it myself, but am curious to know if you felt any better, or noticed better digestion, anything that made you feel it has some positive impact on your well-being. I'm still not sure what those green balls really were...how could a combination of mineral, oil and lemon juice make green balls. Now if you told me you had one of these green balls analyzed, and it turned out that there was actually toxic waste in them, I might try it. From: RICHARD5021 4/19/2001 3:21 am (AB_ALTMED) (3 of 52) 1791.3 in reply to 1791.1 Hi , I too have tried a version of the Liver/Gallbladder detox. I too achieved the same results as you, quit a few pale green structures floating in the bowl. I did not examine them as closely as you but did experience the same exuberant detox high! I can not say it was one of the more enjoyable experiences in my life but I do feel that it was beneficial and I will do it again. I did feel good for weeks after (whether placebo or actual benefit)and feel that the stones that I passed were actually gallstones. I enjoy your column, Rick in PA From: HERBNURSE 4/19/2001 8:19 am (AB_ALTMED) (4 of 52) 1791.4 in reply to 1791.1 I have used a liver flush off and on over the last 20 years, although it is significantly different than the one you describe. This liver flush is a 5 day dast from all solid food but you drink quarts and quarts of organic " lemonade " . Use organic lemons and pure water in a pitcher to make lemonade as usual. For the sweetener use only 100% pure maple syrup to taste. Add fresh ground dried cayenne in small amounts (~1/2 tsp in 2 qts.). Bottoms up! I was taught that the lemon is the cleanser, flushing the liver in particular of toxins. The maple syrup is for energy to provide the carbohydrate source during the " fast " . The cayenne stimulates circulation to assure that optimal organ cleansing is going on. There are no dramatic or visible / tangible results of any kind, sorry. There are no green balls, or any kind of balls at all. There are times when your stool looks really skanky and makes you happy that that stuff is leaving your body, but that's about it. I am not actually sure and would have to go back and check my old books, but, to give credit where credit is due, I believe this liver flush was passed along by Mildred ND in her volume on alternative medicines. People with any signs and symptoms of any kind of liver conditions should never pursue the liver flush or similar liver cleansings as it could exacerbate inflammations of the liver. If you are not sure, ask your doctor if your liver function tests are within normal ranges before you contemplate taxing your liver with a flush. Happy Spring Cleaning! From: TXHERBALORE 4/19/2001 3:42 pm (AB_ALTMED) (5 of 52) 1791.5 in reply to 1791.1 After suffering with a " hot " gall bladder that my family physician was not able to diagnose, even after an ultrasound and bloodwork (my numbers were all in the " normal " range), I turned to alternative medicine....herbs. Consulted with a Master Herbalist who recommended the gall bladder flush, combined with a series of herbs known to calm and heal the digestive system. After 6 months of watching my diet, taking my herbs, and doing the flush (olive oil, lemon juice, & cascara sagrada instead of epsom salts), I am feeling better than I have felt in several years. I'm from a family of problem gall bladders and I made a decision to do whatever it takes to keep mine. My program consisted of building my system through cleansing, stimulation of my immune system, maintaining my body pH through a better diet, exercise, and lots of water. My gall bladder flush followed several months of building my body systems. By using Cascara Sagrada, I never experienced any pain or problems. Since flushing, my body pH has been easier to maintain, I have more energy, feel more calm, and my body even feels healthier. I've been slightly anemic for many years and recently noticed my blood looks healthier, darker, and clots faster. I no longer take anti-depressants-haven't needed them and I feel better than I have felt in a long time. Taking charge of my own health rather than depending upon " modern medicine " to solve my problems has made a difference for me. I still have a lot of work to do-so many years of neglect, but each day brings me closer to being healthy and " centered " again. From: SUZEE3 4/20/2001 5:40 am HERBNURSE (6 of 52) 1791.6 in reply to 1791.4 I'd heard this cleanse attributed to Stanley Burroughs, also a naturopathic doctor, I believe. It's more of a whole body detoxer than just for the liver. The lemon juice also alkalanizes your body; you get vit C from the juice and cayenne (which helps raise your body temp and helps kill off any troubling viruses or bacteria you don't need), and the syrup (usually grade B or C) also has nutrients in it. One can also have vegetable juices or broth or lightly steamed vegetable if they just can't conceive going without food for several days. suzee From: HERBNURSE 4/20/2001 6:50 am SUZEE3 (7 of 52) 1791.7 in reply to 1791.6 Although I have studied and taught in the " Holistic Health " world for 20 years, I am also a nurse and have been working as one in Western medicine since 1967. There are both pros and cons to having a foot in both worlds. I have to be able to understand natural health practices within a context that also honors basic science. So, thank you so much for responding to my message. It is very kind of you., but to my knowledge one cannot " alkalinize " the body; the pH of the body's tissues and fluids remain constant in a very narrow range; metabolic mechanisms compensate for our intake no matter how acidic or alkaline it is. Cayenne does not raise the body temperature; but it is a vasodilator, opening blood vessels which sometimes causes sensations of being hot, followed by a sweat. But the body's temperature itself doesn't rise. Even when our body temperature is extremely high (e.g. temperatures greater then 102)there is no evidence that any virus or bacteria is killed off. In fact, there is evidence to the contrary. Body temperature rises (we run a fever) because the body's immune system is working hard to fight off infection. (manufacturing white blood cells, rallying various other defenses, etc.) We rev our engines so hard that this work produces heat, and thus a temperature elevation. I am brand new to this site, and chat forums so I don't know if I have have gone against internet etiquette by responding to your message as I have. If I have offended, please forgive me. I do not wish to offend anyone's sensibilities. But I am also a nurse educator who practices integrative medicine, and the educator in me makes me speak out. I agree with your sources who told you those balls were not gallstones. They are most definitely NOT. It's actually pretty sad that people who don't know what gallstones look like are all impressed by this and think they have passed stones. Ann (praticing pathologist) From: LOVERIOT 4/20/2001 8:28 pm YEEH01 (9 of 52) 1791.9 in reply to 1791.8 If it's not gallstones, is it at least some form of " waste " that has been purged from the system that could not have otherwise been purged? From: SUZEE3 4/21/2001 3:12 am HERBNURSE (10 of 52) 1791.10 in reply to 1791.7 No offense taken. Your reply was very polite and informative. Thank you. sue From: PATKAY4 4/22/2001 3:19 pm (AB_ALTMED) (11 of 52) 1791.11 in reply to 1791.1 Since I have been hospitalized for gallstones twice I have tried a few things and learned a few things. Supposedly, gallstones can't be dissolved. I think that is not true. I did try the live/gallbladder flush but didn't pass anything. The pain in my gallbladder went away after I started taking 3 tablespoons per day of Bragg's raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar. I also had to give up honey as it causes dormant gallstones to harden. Also, if you suspect you have gallstones DO NOT do a niacin flush as it will cause major problems for you. From: RN4NSY 4/25/2001 7:36 pm LOVERIOT (12 of 52) 1791.12 in reply to 1791.9 I too, expect that what was " passed " was a combo of the oil,etc plus all those veggies eaten those days before hand. Gallstones cannot be passed in this way. Plus gallstones are hard, not gelatinous. the only way to get rid of them is by surgery to remove the gallbladder. Of course if I had paid attention years ago and not eaten a high fat diet perhaps I would not have had mine removed! From: DJ6467 4/26/2001 9:38 am (AB_ALTMED) (13 of 52) 1791.13 in reply to 1791.1 If we are to accept from your article that this is a con and that the matter excreted is NOT gallstones how then is it explained that a person who has an ultrasound scan that confirms the presence of gallstones, after the treatment has a second ultrasound that confirms the ABSENCE of gallstones? From: LOVERIOT 4/26/2001 1:33 pm RN4NSY (14 of 52) 1791.14 in reply to 1791.12 Thanks for your input. I guess I can understand that it's probably not gallstones that were passed. But I'm just trying to figure out if doing a liver flush is actually purging/cleansing " something " that wouldn't normally be flushed out. That is, is there any merit to doing it. From: nik hassan nik mohd amin (NHNMA) 4/29/2001 1:15 pm LOVERIOT (15 of 52) 1791.15 in reply to 1791.9 Where can I buy this green balls? I firmly believe that all of our vital organs, especially those involved in excreting from the body residue ,waste ,toxins ond other by-products of our biological activity need to be serviced and cleansed especially when they have been subject to years of neglect and abuse. From: LOVERIOT 4/29/2001 1:28 pm nik hassan nik mohd amin (NHNMA) unread (16 of 52) 1791.16 in reply to 1791.15 The " green balls " is what was excreted after the liver flush. Read the article in the original post to get the full story. From: 61554 5/7/2001 6:00 am LOVERIOT (17 of 52) 1791.17 in reply to 1791.16 I too have tried the liver flush, which we always called it the gallbladder cleanse. I am here to tell you I FEEL it works! Taking the gallbladder out is taking care of a symptom, WHY not take care of the Problem and that is to feed the body the right way & it can HEAL itself!! I was told that the apple juice and lemon juice are to soften the stones so that they can pass and the oil is to help them go through the ducts. I passed black stones (That's what I would choose to call them) many of them the first time and then I redid the cleanse and passed green ones that time and I FELT GREAT the first and 2nd time. I am a Believer that they were stones softened! I feel that if your going to do the cleanse that you need to stick with someone that has done it before and do it as it says to do it! I would do it again and know that if I did I would feel better! I have friends that have done it, after being diagnosed with a bad gallbladder and got the same GREAT feeling I had one of them is a nurse and she has of yet to have her gallbladder taken out and she really wasn't sure when I told her what I had done, when I had gallbladder problems, because she really is not into the natural things as I am BUT........this time she decided to try the cleanse and it worked and made a BELIEVER out if her! You have to decide what is BEST for you and it's NOT SURGERY for me! GOOD LUCK to you all and isn't it GREAT that we have freeedom of speech! I will opt to do cleanses as to be practiced on by a doctor, which is what happens sometimes! At least this is my opinion! 61554 From: RYDER121 5/9/2001 5:54 pm 61554 unread (18 of 52) 1791.18 in reply to 1791.17 With regards to the liver flush that was mentioned in the article, how many times can a person do this? Meaning if I did the flush this weekend, and decided that a second flush was necessary, how soon after the first flush should you do the second? Would you wait a week until the next one, or would you do something else? The other question I have is what exactly is " cascara sagrada " and where can you find it? From: ARROWROOT 5/18/2001 6:40 am ALL (19 of 52) 1791.19 in reply to 1791.18 I haven't read the article (going there next) but I did find an interesting site about a woman who was cured of cancer with herbs and the help of an herbalogist. Here is a link to her page on recipes for cleansing/flushing/detox: http://www.angelaharris.com/herbform.htm I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but I intend to. I appreciate reading posts of other peoples experiences. Would really like a doctor have a patient with verified gallstones do the flush, keep checking to verify the gallstones/monitor progress, and investigate those suspicious little balls to see what they contain. Too bad the high cost of malpractice insurance prevents so many doctors from investigating alternative health options. From: EGGUNSEYE 5/26/2001 11:27 pm (AB_ALTMED) (20 of 52) 1791.20 in reply to 1791.1 hello kathy. sorry you had such a hard time with the flush. i was diagnosed earlier this month with having gallstones. in my research i came across the formula online and decided to try it. also the same kind of geletainous globes, think they were gallstones. returned to dr. got another scan, doc says no more stones, but there is some sludge left over. i wonder if i need to do another cleanse to get rid of the sludge. my only complaint is a bitter taste in my mouth that won't go away. eggunseye
