Guest guest
I found some images of Cholangiogram. Cholangiogram is an X-ray of the bile ducts and gallbladder. Radio-opaque dye injected inside bile ducts is used to enhance the X-ray. The ducts (passageways) that transport bile between liver, gallbladder and small intestine cannot be seen on x-ray without the use of a contrast material (x-ray dye). This exam can show blockages within common bile duct or hepatic ducts. The most common reason for this exam is to look for remaining stones or stone fragments in the ducts after surgery. Images: This is Great enhanced image of bile ducts: http://webct.downstate.edu:8900/courseware/RAd-Atlas/Abdomen/20chopan.html To highlight different parts, click on the menu options - left side of the screen. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/imagepage/1155.htm http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/imagepage/1163.htm Some of my assumptions: Advantages: Trained eye can easily recognize larger stones stuck inside larger bile ducts. Disadvantages: Stones are sometimes deep inside bile ducts, area where Radio-opaque dye can not reach. Problems in recognizing smaller stones inside gallbladder or inside intrahepatic bile ducts. Problems in recognizing stones smaller then the diameter of bile ducts. LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLANGIOGRAM - In the laparoscopic cholangiogram, a small flexible catheter is placed into the common bile duct. A radiopaque contrast material is then injected. Conventional x-rays of the abdomen (taken immediately) will highlight the course of the common bile duct. Any obstruction of the duct (by gall stones or tumor) can be demonstrated using this test.
Guest guest
Do you have any idea why the cholangiogram site showed the 12th thoracic vertebrae? Does it have something to do with the gallbladder? Thanks
Guest guest
It also checks the liver. Wish I knew what I did with my reports. The surgeon gave me a copy, but I have no idea where it is now. Even if I had never seen the report though, I would know that I was stone-free simply by how darn good I feel. Listening to one's own body is often proof enough. Guest guest
If you feel good that's worth a lot. I know our bodies talk to us if we'll only listen.
