Guest guest
Hi Pamela, I'm half jewish. Jewish on my father's side and Christian on my mothers' side. It's interesting you mentioned this because my father, 2 uncles, and 2 cousin's all on his side have psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis. No one at all on my mother's side has it. Now I have no idea if this proves or disproves weather or not jews are more prone to psoriasis, but I just thought it was interesting you mentioned it. Take care Mike --- Pamela Kirstine <sapphira_dot_com@...> wrote: > I am Jewish and have been reading that Jews are > prone to psoriasis! Guest guest
Greetings Pamela I am also Jewish and was also told that Jews are prone to psoriasis, and similarly do not know of any of my ancestors suffering from psoriasis or PA which I have had for the last 15 years. I was fortunate that my General Practioner diagnosed PA at my first visit, my selection of rheumys was not so fortunate. Now on my 6th or 7th. Had to travel from Port throughout South Africa till I saw my present rheumy. He iniatially practiced 500 miles away (in Cape Town) but I have moved and he operates a few miles away. I am fortunate that on 20mg MXT am able to function reasonably well. Still have flares and then take pain meds and handfuls of diclofenac saodium. Chag Samach from Cape Town, hope you are having a lovely and kosher Pesach Yours Graham Melamed
Guest guest
SHALOM AND HAPPY PESACH!!!! I was not as lucky as you in getting a first diagnosis, very glad you did though!!! I have been told for years that I had ringworm on my skin and then when my toenails were attacked, they told me I had fungus. Years and years they told me I had ringworm mind you. I felt like a big cuddy, too scared to even hug my own kids! I finally got fedup and got on my computer and looked up " fungus on the toenail " and it said that one has to make a very careful diagnosis because it could be psoriasis of the toenail and that more people who have toenail involvement also can have an arthritis that goes with it. I have had bone problems for years too and the rheumy told me it was just fibromyalgia which I do believe I have too which is no laughing matter, but deep down I could feel my bones going bad on me especially in my neck and spine. They will crack and just hurt horribly, enough to make me cry sometimes. I knew when I read on the comper about PA that that is what I had. I went to a dermatologist next because I just didn`t believe I could have ringworm or fungus on my nails. He did skin and a nail culture and found out it was indeed psoriasis. I went back to my regular doc then and told her what the dermy had said and she sent me back to the same rheumy that didn`t think I had anything wrong except fibromyalgia. he thought no way did I have PA because it is a rarer form of arthritis but he did an MRI and then decided that I did indeed have PA. What a long and bumpy road I have been on to find out what I have. If not for my computer I doubt if I would still to this day know what I have. I was reading yesterday on the internet about the Jews that were sent to the camps ( not camp Good Fun either) and if they had psoriasis they were immediately sent to the chambers. By some miracle of G-D though the survivors who had psoriasis, it went into remission for them! All of them! But the psoriais did return after the war. G-D truly does work in mysterious ways! It is just sad that some people can be so cruel to begin with Well I should be off for now, no doubt boring you to tears by now! Shalom for now! Hi Sapphira, I have heard that Jews are prone to all kinds of autoimmune disease. On the Jewish side of my family, I have cousins with Crohns and cousins with lupus. The psoriasis came from the Catholic side of my family. There is also a thought that autoimmune disease is also more prevalent among those of Eastern European descent, and since many Jews come from that part of the world, that may be why.
