Guest guest
Hello Dawn: << I was informed this morning that my granny is going to go through chemo and radiation! I am so shocked. I know she has not chosen this. She is being forced into it by argument, and is aquiescing.>> It is a sad day when a person cannot have their wishes followed regarding care or treatment, regardless of their age or beliefs. No one can force you into medical treatment unless you have given up power of attorney to someone else. If your grandmother is being treated against her will it is because she either signed over a power of attorney, or someone has gone to court and obtained a power of attorney by claiming that she is unable to care for herself. It is extremely rare that someone in the medical community would go to court, as a general rule it is a family member. << She has no insurance and no Medicare and can't qualify for reasons I do not understand.>> If you are receiving social security retirement income, you are automatically on Medicare. If you don't receive SS benefits you are not. It's that simple. I don't know all of the qualifications for Medicaid, but it is available for people of any age who are on a low income. <<... I have a new resentment for the medical system.>> It's not the medical system, it's the legal system. Someone, probably a family member, is making her choices for her. << If you know anyone with a positive cancer outcome through medical means, I would sure like to know.>> The cancer failures get most of the publicity, while the successes go without mention. Remember, cancer kills and many people fail to realize that. They want the medical community to be able to fix everything. Yet when someone dies of heart disease it is accepted, when in reality the person having heart disease has much more control over their own condition (some can be reversed through diet and exercise) than cancer. I have not had any family members who have had chemo, but have had several who have been medically treated and continued on cancer free. A cigarette smoking uncle had a cancerous lung removed at age 68, lived on one lung until 84. Two aunts who had cancer removed from their colons while in their 60s. One lived to 84, one to 95. Have an 82 year old brother who a year ago was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder. The " treatment " by his doctor was to implant live tuberculoses cells in the bladder to destroy the cancer. When I heard that, I thought it was the most stupid thing that the medical community had ever thought of. His cancer cleared up within a month and today he is cancer free. I worked with a man who beginning at age 25 developed skin cancer on his face. He goes in once a year and has each spot removed and leads a normal life. Last I saw him he was in his mid 50s. I myself go to a dermatologist on an annual basis to have small growths removed from my scalp which are pre-melanoma. He squirts each spot with liquid nitrogen and they eventually fall off. By the way, this condition is caused completely from ultra-violet sun rays. If you have fair skin, protect yourself from the sun, it is a matter of life and death. I could go on with other medical success stories relating to cancer, and quite truthfully I don't know of any family member or close friend who has died from it. Dawn, if you really have a concern about your grandmother, you yourself can make an appointment with her physician and learn why the decision was made and what is actually going to be done. Often times second hand information is worse than no information at all. I have read that garlic is a protector from radiation. That is in a couple of books that I have, and it is what the following web site says. Besides taking it raw, the cold processed capsules or tablets have found to be the most effective methods of use. From: http://www.englemed.demon.co.uk/thisweek.htm Garlic fights mutations June 9 - Garlic has legendary protective properties - and now scientists claim it may guard against modern monsters. Laboratory studies on human cells have shown that a garlic extract can stimulate the repair of the DNA genetic code, according to the Russian researchers. Garlic may also protect against radiation damage, the researchers said. The scientists exposed the cells to three DNA damaging substances, gamma radiation, cadmium chloride and 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide or NQO. The scientists found that garlic was most effective against radiation - repairing damage within 15 minutes and protecting against its damage. Garlic also protected against cadmium chloride but not against NQO. Jay

I'm saving stuff on the benefits of garlic. I think at Dr. Mercola's website he has an article or two about garlic, which are good articles. Thanks, Susie

Guest guest
Thanks, Jay. I am really appreciating your posts on this. She does not want to be treated, but has been talked into it. I am hoping she will change her mind. My uncle does also have legal power of attorney for all decisions. I appreciate the knowledge that I could meet with the Drs. I doubt that will be possible as I will only be in town a few days next week. I also appreciate all your examples of people who have lived long and healthy lives after extreme treatments. My gm is not in good health and I think it will be detrimental. But, I know I could be wrong. Your letter is comforting and I appreciate the info. They will deplete her entire life savings and either kill her in the process, shorten her life, or ruin what she might have had left. That's what they specialize in. I hope there is someone to stand up for her. > Also there is a book by somebody about the medical system. He was the former inheritor of the Dairy Queen empire. Perhaps you mean Robbins? I believe he has an organization in Santa Cruz, California, and his dad owned Baskin Robbins.
Guest guest
Dawn, It sounds like this is all in the hands and decisions of your uncle. If you are concerned maybe you should voice your concerns with him and find out why he has chosen this route for your gm. Maybe you could also offer some information to him and other family members. Good luck. > Thanks, Jay. I am really appreciating your posts on this. She does > not want to be treated, but has been talked into it. I am hoping she > will change her mind. I would take a guess that Dawn's uncle is interested in saving his mother's life. I have trouble faulting him for that. --------------------------- IRA L.
