Guest guest
Judy, sorry to hear that you are feeling so awful. I'm sure many of us can identify with this way that you are feeling. If it gets worse maybe you should go to the hospital, especially if the breathing is that bad. At least I hope you have or will call your doctor soon. Why can't you take anything to stop the sinuses from being so inflamed? I am confused by that ... you can't take anything or what you are taking isn't helping? If so, what are you taking? Have you had surgery recently? One of the things I learned relatively recently was that when our polyps get really really bad/large they actually make the whole illness worse, because those nasal tissues actually create the very chemicals that make our symptoms worse, so it is sort of self-perpetuating, a vicious circle. I used to think it was just the blockage of the sinuses that made my asthma worse, but it's not just that and the post-nasal drip, it's that the chemicals also get created in what's called the endothelial lining of the nose and the polyps themselves become factories of these chemicals that make our asthma worse, too. That's why I have more recently become a little more of a proponent of the surgery, especially since now there are things I can do to slow the regrowth of the polyps afterwards. Anyway, you're obviously in a crisis situation now and I hope you find something to help. Also I hope you can let a neighbor or your kids or a friend or someone come in and possibly help you with the dogs -- you need some rest!! I am confused by that ... you can't take anything or what you are taking isn't helping? If so, what are you taking?*********************** Aspirin was the only thing that helped me and now that I have become sensitive to it, and I gave up on anti-inflammatory long ago, they just don't work and they all gave me diarrhea and with irritable bowl syndrome I can do without the diarrhea. My worst time is always when a front is coming through and living in AR we have allot of them. Now that the front has passed my symptoms are slowly receding but it will still be a couple of days before all is better, something I have just learned to live with. What made it worse today was having my grandchildren to run after and it makes me sad that I can't keep them as much as I would like to. As soon as the front passed my ears opened up and my nose started running and will drain now for a few days. Hopefully most of the inflammation will go down by tomorrow so I can get back to my art work. It is tornado season here and more fronts to pass through and I will live through them too. My son is a nurse and I can call him if I get into trouble, he is only a few minutes away, but I try not to depend on him as he has a family with small children and a new one on the way. I used to run to the doctor every time I had one of these attacks, after we finally found out about the aspirin and know that cold or warm fronts trigger asthma symptoms too I don't get scared anymore and learned to calm down instead of panic. Guest guest
When we think of the Dark Ages we tend to think sadly of the amazing ignorance spanning centuries. The reality was that there were many intelligent people. They had the common sense to know that you do nothing to inspire the fear of royalty, the church, the wealthy, or the masses. How do we know this? They survived and passed their intelligent (but a little bit cowardly) genes down to many of us. Nothing has changed. We still live in a dark age controlled by plutocrats, shadow governments, two-bit tyrants, and populated by fearful wage slaves -- a toxic world run amok with unenlightened self interest. This extends deeply into the cancer treatment paradigm. I have spent tens of thousands of hours over decades discussing cancer treatments with those in the business: researchers, clinicians, and pharmaceutical honchos. Politicians don't count as over 90% are dragged around by the money-reelection ring in their nose and only a rare few are bright, honorable, or foresighted. Only manipulative fund raisers and the naive talk about curing cancer. Everyone else just stays silent. Each has found a niche to obtain money, power, and security to a tune of four trillion dollars annually in the US -- medical services, medical products, medical research. Even the defense budget is under half a trillion dollars. There is no medical Gandhi who can help us overthrow this global medical paradigm. If there were there would be a million volunteers to take him out back and shoot him. The scientific world is bursting at the seams with probable cures for cancer and with seemingly wonderful treatments that can't possibly work. The former go ignored and unfunded and the latter is rife with cutthroat politics to find their way to the market. I don't often reflect on these things, but sometimes I must. My own cancer treatment is about to take a turn for the aggressive. My appetite has turned less ravenous as I've approached my pre-cancer set weight, I do feel fit in every way, but I am not fooled for a second. I have spent my whole life observing and analyzing cancer: any worthwhile cancer strategy must be proleptic. As I take on this challenge for myself (and others), I wondered how many patents and how many signed " non-disclosures " I am violating. I can't step into my lab without pondering what kind of civil tort is on my menu for the day. I can always plead confusion -- my torts and my tortes are both endothermic chemistry. I think there's such a thing as a defense of necessity; I'll ask my jurisprudent wife. This has been a week of frustration. So many of the chemicals that I have on order " will be here in three weeks. " I suspect that the US economy is so poor that many chemical suppliers are now doing their warehousing of specialty chems in China, Japan, India, etc. Today, after a couple hours of lab work I think I'll go to the Center and do a hyperthermia sauna with sensitizers. This will include topical 15% benzoic acid in petrolatum and oral Lonidamine, dipyridamole, quercetin, ammonium chloride, mu-trioxobiscarboxyethylgermanium (sesquioxide) and oxygen. With an i-pod it is so easy to stretch out in the sauna and sleep. I do keep electrolyte replenishing drinks with me. What I need is a sauna-friendly lap top computer impervious to heat and humidity. I wonder if anyone has fit a Jacuzzi type floatation tank within a sauna and further created a hyperthermic ganzfeld experience.
Guest guest
Hey ,What I'm about to copy below is something I said in reply to someone who asked about using the machine at lower speeds (is it even necessary). This is not a direct answer to your question, but it does give a little bit of information about different ways I use the Vitamix (I use mine 5-6 times a day)I DO use it to chop veggies all of the time. It is only when the chopped veggies must LOOK pretty, that it isn't the best tool in the kitchen. Whenever I make Chili I chop onion, green pepper, celery, and carrots. My Chili is chock full of veggies and it never matters what they look like. The slow speed does a GREAT job with carrots - I love to make carrot salad with the VM. I make the bulk of my salsa's with the Vitamix then if I want it chunkier use my chopper on a few slices of tomatoes to add in.I use the slow speed to chop veggies to put on top of salads - it doesn't look pretty, but I can add so much more veggies when it is as easy as chopping them in the Vitamix - I would just skip the veggies all together if I had to chop them by hand or with my chopper (the VM is much easier to clean than the chopper and I only get it out as a last resort).I use the slow speed to scramble eggs and to chop veggies at the same time that I am scrambling eggs to make a veggie omelette or quiche (again, it doesn't matter what the veggies look like in that omelette or quiche). I use the slow speeds to add texture back into a soup where I heated the broth on high, but lowered the speed to add things like cooked chicken (the chicken gets shredded beautifully for the soup). I do the same thing with my cold green soups in the summer - I make a cold veggie soup base, then add in some coarsely cut up cucumber or celery or pepper or mushroom, etc. to get some crunchy texture in that soup.I also use the slow speeds to make batters like cake, pancake, muffins, and brownie mix.I use the slow speeds to pop air bubbles out of drinks or soups that get too "frothy".When I use protein powder, I use the slow speeds to stir it in after the rest of the smoothie has been made. Guest guest
Bear in mind that until recently, she was doing this in her old 4000 which should give you an idea of the longevity of these machines. Guest guest
I'm a new VM convert, and I use the machine 3-4 times a day. Besides my AM Green Smoothie, I make a whole fruit green juice for the kids to have with lunch. For our mid-afternoon snack we usually have a cup of raw soup, and after dinner my kiddos insist on ice cream or sorbet. I think my kids love the machine more than I do, and they are intrigued with me hiding tons of veggies in "ice cream" and "juice."
Guest guest
I also use my vitamix than once a day on most days....yesterday afternoon I blended up some cashews, bananas, soy milk, cocoa powder, and dash of vanilla into popsicle molds to make Furhman fudgesicles...the kids enjoyed a bit of the blend as a dessert pudding with what didn't fit into the molds. Last night we ate pita chips made with hummus I blended in the VM a couple of days ago. The fudgesicles were frozen and ready for breakfast this am. I usually make a green smoothie for a mid morning snack (only skipped it today cuz we were playing in the snow). For lunch I made our Parrot sauce (with carrots, pears, and slice of lemon blended to the consistency of applesauce). The leftover Parrot sauce went on a dehydrator sheet to have fruit leather in a few hours. Tonight I will be making a Salmon Pie in which I will use the flax meal I ground in the VM as the egg replacer. I will also grind our millet bread in the VM to make bread crumbs and dice the onions on low speed. This is just in 24 hours, but we also make cold coffee drinks, sauces, dips, salad dressings, pancake batter, dairy free ice creams, flours, nut milks, nut/date pie crusts, and much more weekly. Have a good day everyone, Kim > > Hello All, I am new and I am wondering what you use your vitamix's for when you use it more than once a day (other than a smoothie). Guest guest
Kim, Those popsicle molds sound great! I have been trying different ones for my daughter and all though she likes green smoothies she does not like green smoothie popsicles. Can you give me more precise measurements for me to try. I have only been cooking a few years and am still not that great at eying things. Thanks.
