Guest guest
Loretta, you are being a bit generous to say, " may cause more health concerns " but I know you are trying to keep the dialogue cool. If there is one area that the consensus in Alternative circles that excessive use of something is dangerous, it is in CT-Scans, Mammograms, and X-rays. Does this mean that they have never helped? No, but to irradiate multiple millions of women and men, as well as children, to 'help' those few? Uh uh! More cancers will have developed than people have survived cancer as the result. Just recently someone suggested the benefit of 'routine' scans to determine their condition. What does that mean? One every month? Every three months? Just yesterday my Urologist again asked whether or not I would have a CT-Scan and I asked about an MRI instead. He said " sure, they have improved " . I asked, but without contrast? He said, " no and the kidney problems because of the contrast are rare " . I added, but not for the person that needs dialysis as the result of it. Usually the benefit to risk is a benefit to the service offering the Scan while the risk is ours. put it in its proper context. The problems with scans are statistical, numbers, and not everyone will get cancer from them but to use them 'routinely'? I do not think so and people need to examine the reasons, their past exposures, and whether or not the scan will cause them to do something differently. For example. My Urologist wants to know if the Bladder Cancer has travelled upward, through the tubes, to other areas. I asked, what then? He said, " then everything comes out " . Everything. I quickly responded, " that is off the table and will never happen.....period " ! Joe C. So yes, it has happened enough to mention. And since we don't know who all the moderators are, the forum is the only place to hope the concern gets read. I wish it was just a perception, but it is not. If an " honest experience " promotes excessive conventional medicine/harmful scans, etc. then while it may be honest, it is not on-topic according to the description of this forum. I doubt there is one cancer patient on this list that doesn't know what scans/x-rays etc. are available to him/her so these scans/x-rays don't need promotion. However, what many don't fully realize is how harmful they can be in the long-term. This is an experience of which the consequences are not readily known; however, even conventional medicine is now questioning the overuse of scans and x-rays. As others have said there are times when a scan/x-ray is very necessary. But most of the these scans are not proven to be of any real help especially when used prophylactically or for every ache/pain. In fact they may cause more health concerns. Obviously the concern has been duly noted and thus time to move on... Be Well Dr.L -----Original Message----- Dr. Loretta, I have not read a single post on here that promotes conventional medicine. If you perceive that honest discussion about experience is the same as promoting a specific type of treatment, then your perception needs to be tuned a little better. ar
