Here is an excerpt from a pdf file titled " Catsclawtechreport " that is

interesting, I didn't seem to note the web address-

" Cat’s claw has been used in Peru and Europe since the early 1990s as

an adjunctive treatment for cancer and AIDS, as well as other diseases

that target the immunological system. 2–4,23,24 In addition to its

immunostimulating activity, other in vitro anticancerous properties

have been documented for these alkaloids and other constituents in

cat’s claw. Five of the oxindole alkaloids have been clinically

documented with in vitro antileukemic properties, 25 and various root

and bark extracts have demonstrated antitumorous and antimutagenic

properties. 2,26–30 Italian researchers reported in a 2001 in vitro

study that cat’s claw directly inhibited the growth of a human breast

cancer cell line by 90%, 31 while another research group reported that

it inhibited the binding of estrogens in human breast cancer cells in

vitro. 32 Swedish researchers documented it inhibited the growth of

lymphoma and leukemia cells in vitro in 1998. 33 Early reports on

Keplinger’s observatory trials with cancer patients taking cat’s claw

in conjunction with such traditional cancer therapies as chemotherapy

and radiation reported fewer side effects to the traditional therapies

(such as hair loss, weight loss, nausea, secondary infections, and skin

problems). 2 Subsequent researchers have shown how these effects might

be possible: they have reported that cat’s claw can aid in DNA cellular

repair and prevent cells from mutating; it also can help prevent the

loss of white blood cells and immune damage caused by many chemotherapy

drugs (a common side effect called leukopenia). 19–21 "

My mother-in-law is from Peru and lives in the USA. She gave her employer cat's

claw when her employer was diagnosed with cancer. I don't know if it worked but

her employer is still alive as far as I know and it's been a few years since her

diagnosis.

Sometimes I buy cat's claw (uña de gato) from stores that sell products from

Latin America. Every once in a great while, I boil water with a piece of cat's

claw bark in it. It doesn't taste atrocious for something that might be good

for you. As far as I am aware, I don't have a condition for which cat's claw is

taken.

  • 1 year later...

my kids and husband and I all take MASSIVE amounts of probiotics.  When we

don't, we get bad stomach cramps.  We also are on a gluten-free, sugar-free,

dairy-free diet that REALLY helps.  Lyme can just mes up your digestion.  Hope

that helps.

Best,

Natasha

Probiotics were a must for us too. My daughter also got costipated at times

which caused her trouble. At first I gave her tums like stuff and found out that

makes it worse, so her doc gave her Glutathione. But unless you know why you're

having the stomach pain you can't really treat it.

If you interested in Herbal remedies ask you LLMD about the Cowden Protocol or

Zhang herbs. Cowden worked for my daughter in conjunction with antibiotics. Now

she no longer needs ab and only takes a cowden regimin. The Zhang herbs worked

for me.

Good luck to you!

Annie

I recommend that you read Buhner's book " Healing Lyme " . He outlines an

herbal protocol in the book and provides lots of information about the herbs

and research that backs up his recommendations. I've been on Buhner's core

protocol plus since October and have been getting better with very few side

effects.

Some of the components of the Zhang and Cowden protocols are similar to Buhner's

so you can compare. I have not tried Zhang or Cowden protocols. Some of thier

products are proprietary blends which I thought made it more difficult to

research what you're taking.

Information on the Cowden Protocol is available on the Nutramedix website:

The stomach pain is actually a symptom of the disease and if it gets worse it

could be a Herx reaction but it is really important to be sure...

Here's a link about Dr. Zhang -

http://www.lymediseaseresource.com/Dr._Zhang.html

Here's a link about Cowden protocol -

http://www.bionatus.com/nutramedix/pdfs/L-Protocol-cowden.pdf

Our LLMD recommends we try various things:

1. Warm lemon juice in water

2. burbur (every half hour for herxing

3. peat baths (that black mud stuff that they use in spas for mud wraps I guess

Those help with Herx reactions and might help you.

Neither thing is something I would suggest you putting yourself on. Thay are

actual treatments for Lyme. If your GP believes you have Lyme and is treating

you I would suggest asking him if he'd be willing to do a consult with a LLMD.

Dr. Horowitz in Hyde Pak, NY is usually very open to working with other doctors

and he is very familiar with both the Cowden Protocol and the hang herbs.

I'm sorry I can't help you more, but there are different variations of the

Cowden Protocol and different Zhang herbs for different things. They are hebs

but they are still fairlt powerful healing things and you really don't want to

take them the wrong way.

Good Luck.

Annie
