I posted a letter from biochemist that explains this!

Antioxidants, once they are stripped of their hydrogen leave exposed double

bonded oxygen, so, the deprotonation activates anti oxidants rapidly, and then

the pro oxidant activity, which is longer lived due to gas exchange dynamics can

actually act as oxygen pump.
