Guest guest
Hi, Arlyn. Thanks for mentioning the toxicity of selenium at too high doses. I have found what looks to be a very informative site for selenium and for many other things: http://www.acu-cell.com/ses.html The writer at that site says 200 mcg per day is plenty, and that people should work up to that dosage. I have been taking 400 mcg in addition to anything I get with my food. So it very much appears I need to cut back. Cataracts is just one possibility of chronically taking too much selenium. I'm glad you mentioned possible toxicity, as the information I found will allow me to cut my intake by half, thereby saving me significant money. The author of that page also says naturally occuring selenium is always preferable to synthetic selenium, so maybe I will start buying Brazillian in-the-shell Brazil nuts again. The best way to break open and extract the meat from these very tough nuts is to put them in the freezer for 24 hours before attempting to crack them. Best wishes, Elliot
