Guest guest
Hi. I of course am sorry you were diagnosed with cancer, but am not sure I understand what you are saying/asking. You seem to be saying you were already doing all the things one needs to do so as not to get get cancer, but that you quit smoking 3 weeks ago...? Also, you appear to be saying you were involved in fire fighting. If that is the case, and I certainly thank you and honor you for your activities in the dangerous and very necessary jobs of law enforcement and fire fighting, you might have inhaled smoke and other harmful stuff that helped your body to develop cancer. If you wish to read about my particular voyage with cancer, please click on the FILES link in the blue box to the left and then click on my name. Very best wishes and best of health, Elliot You wrote: > Elliot > You said you have been fighting cancer for 15 or 18 years I believe. I have been fighting it now for 3 and a half now. I had the surgery, radiation and chemo twice and they admitted to me they did not get it all. I was given a 4% chance to see Oct. 2007 yet am still here. I have been almost 3 weeks without smoking now. > What do you contribute to your success? Mine I attribute to God and His help giving me and others the insight needed to fight and counter it. I had been VERY active, being law enforcement and working on fires with my job. All the things people say ,do to stay healthy and eat, to be healthy, I was already !! >
Guest guest
Apologies for the instructions about finding information about my living with cancer. You will need to click on " FILES, " or click here /files/ Then click on " Cancer Survivors In Our Group " and THEN click on my name. (I do not call myself a cancer " survivor, " by the way; I call myself a cancer " LIVER, " as I am doing a great deal more than surviving. I certainly feel the need to tell you that my diagnosis was low-grade lymphoma, and " indolent " type of cancer, which is extraordinarily different than something like metastatic breast cancer or than large cell lung cancer. Both of those are far more serious diagnoses than my own. I do not want to mislead anyone with a more severe diagnosis into asking him/herself, " What is HE doing that I'M not doing?! " Certainly I have done extraordinarily well, and certainly I believe many of the things I have done alternatively have helped significantly. But it must be remembered that I was not dealing with something like inoperable renal cell carcinoma or with pancreatic cancer. I was and am dealing with a cancer which, if properly treated, or, with regard to mainstream treatment, if treated as little as possible, can give a person very long remissions, and even enable a person to live out a normal life span. It appears to me that those who do worse with a case of low-grade lymphoma are those who allow mainstream MD's to treat the dis-ease aggressively, and who trust implicitly in their oncologist rather than do all they can to educate themselves about how best to live with the illness. That is what I have done---I have tried to leave no stone unturned in learning about what I can do live as healthfully and as long as possible with low-grade lymphoma. Best wishes and best of health, Elliot

My lungs had been clean and did not get the cancer until it traveled through the body after surgery. I knew many people who smoked for years but died of old age, not cancer. I guess I am asking if you have read about generational cancer and if there is a way to cut that link.
Guest guest
Hi. The " generational " part of cancer...? Best thing I read on that was when Matthias Rath said, " Genetics may load the gun,(it does not always), but lifestyle pulls the trigger. " Having a genetic predisposition to cancer does not at all means one will be dx'd with the dis-ease. Living an anti-cancer lifestyle can go far toward warding off the illness. With regard to the rest of your reply, I have been thinking about how to answer it so as not to cause offense or guilt. It appears to me that to say smoking had nothing to do with the cancer and that one's lungs were clean subsequent to smoking for any length of time is overstating things. I believe it could well be that the immune system had to work overtime cleaning the body of the contamination and toxins from the smoking, so that it could have missed killing cancer in another part of the body. And even if there was no cancer in the lungs, they could hardly have been " clean. " They would certainly have been dirty from the smoke/tar etc in the cigarette smoke. To speak of " many people who smoked for years but who died of old age " does no one any good, in my opinion, and can do many people who smoke a great disservice by giving them just one more excuse not to quit a very dangerous, very dirty, very expensive habit. Respectfully and with best wishes, Elliot

I do agree some things do NOT help, but I still contend that there is more to the bad medical conditions than is on the surface. Such as the preservatives and bad things in the air that are produced by man. I am sure you have known people also that have lived the " healthy " life styles and maybe, such as is my case, have seen people die way before they should have that lived a " cleaner " life. This is why I try and open my eyes and see more than what is just in front of me. In many aspects, it just seems so many claim they are open minded yet they still think " inside the box " . I would think this group of people should be able to explore and think and not be dictated to. To question, to me, is another way of showing a person wants to learn even more, sometimes we just don't know what to ask to explore the journey. my respect to all who are willing to not put down the next person who asks, " WHY " !! Guest guest
Hi, " linerider. " What is your name, please? I am not understanding your reply. I certainly hope I did not dictate to anyone or denegrate or insult anyone, including you, with my replies. I apologize if anything in my replies was taken that way. It was definitely not intended. I certainly value this group as much as anyone with regard to exploring and asking questions. Best wishes, Elliot

It does seem at times you think your opinion is the only one that counts and you seem to scoff when others try to explain why they question things at times. There are times one questions as in musing and wondering if others have the same questions rattling around in their brains too. I ask questions at times, not to get a reply as much as to voice the question and see if another wonders too.
