Hi ,

I think Acupuncture would serve you well because it can help move qi and blood

to the throat. There are certain points for this kind of thing and a specific

diagnosis. I would suggest going to a Licenced Acupuncturist because

Chiropractors have limited training. Dont be shy about asking the practitioners

credentials too. Hope this helps,

Hi,

Wondering if any of you can help me with some information about hoarseness in

the voice, want to know how it can be treated since its a lung cancer symptom,

Also, have any of you taken or are taking Alimta as second line treatment for

nsclc, let me know please

God bless you all

, to me the obvious and ideal thing would be to treat your cancer

effectively and then the hoarsness will go away!

Here is a phone number to a cancer patient, she was coughing up blood literally

three months ago!  You must call these people.

I am posting their number here, but don't fret!  They have asked me to post

their phone number, It's just a cell phone anyway.

(Moderator's Note: I have deleted the name and phone number of the people Bret

is referring to. If you wish to contact these people, please contact Bret first

for the information.)

I would like to know about the hoarseness as well as my voice has changed. I

inhaled some oven cleaner a month ago, while cleaning a client's oven. I told my

oncologist about it, but he says it would have resolved in a few days. He thinks

the coughing, raspy voice and throwing up is related the the cancer mets in the

lung. I looked up what was in the oven cleaner and it is lye. I am sure this

didn't do me any good. I wore a mask on my face when I was spraying it, but

opened the door to check on it and got a good whiff and then started coughing

like crazy. I also am more breathless when I hike.

I know this will not help with the problem now but in the future, I would

suggest using Easy Off in the blue can. It is not very toxic. It does not

smell bad either. You do not need to heat the oven before using. Just spray it

in and wipe if up in a couple of hours.

No doubt.  I think she went to the doctor or asked her doctor about it already.

Go to specialist, if on HMO ask for Ear, Nose, Throat guy!

I have heard that hoarseness could also be sign of hypo thyroid.

something to check.

Bret:

I still think it is suspect that I started coughing violently after inhaling the

lye oven cleaner. It wasn't a lot of inhalation, but enough to set me off. I

mowed a client's lawn on Saturday and grass also irritated my throat and I

started coughing as well. I have had a syndrome that I saw on an X-ray where I

pool food and water in my esphogus and little particles get into my lungs--thus

the coughing. This may be related to radiation back in 1995, but I have an 88

year old client who has the same problem. Tucking my chin helps tremendously. I

drank some water driving my car about a month ago and threw up so violently at a

stop sign that I had to open my car door. This is the same symptom I had when

the cancer metastized in my lungs back in 2006. After being on femara for about

a year, I got further testing that resulted in the the x-ray images, showing the

pooling. I was told to do some throat exercises, which I never followed thru

consistently. I had

to much on my plate. I will try to start these soon. This phenomena is not

related to my cancer diagnosis, only perhaps the result of cancer treatment.

I ate out on July 4th and coughed so violently at the restaurant that I was

deeply embarrassed. Of course, it didn't help that I put hot Chinese mustard AND

hot red sauce together on my brown rice.

Water in particular is the most difficult and sets off the coughing. I do

believe the inhalation of the oven cleaner did some damage, perhaps not

permanent. I have a co-worker who did the same thing and she said she coughed

for months.

Thanks for your concern Bret and others!

Thanks for the clarifications:

The radiation can create permanent changes in mucous membranes. What you have is

a swollowing dysphagia that causes aspiration.

There are excercises but they probably will only help a little,...you can always

ask your doctor for speach therapy consult/eval.

Chin tuck shuts off trachea prevents aspiration.

That aspiration is a coughing spell and a half but the upside of that

is a strong cough keeps you from getting pneumonia.

Keep in touch, I have several lung cancer clients who are female and none of

them smoked.

People never address lung cancer in women, no awareness but it's worse than

breast cancer in terms of statistics, and it affects non-smokers. What's the

deal here?
