I was recently on a shift with a Naturopathic Physician (ND) who

specializes in environmental medicine. She's convinced the majority

of thyroid inflamation (thyroiditis) can be traced back to some kind

of pesticide and/or pollution exposure. Anyway, here are a couple

of clinical pearls to consider and share with a physician who will

listen to work with you.

when checking thyroid check TSH first

if it comes back low, check anti TPO (Hashimoto's) and anti-TSI

(Graves dz)

TDC = thyroid disrupting compounds

do enviro exposure intake – linked to radiation, pesticides and

heavy metals are main cause

hyperthyroid herbs: leonorus, lemon balm, lomatium, throw in

hormones while working on the cx. ARMOUR not used b/c dose is

variable/batch (amt of hormone collected from hogs in summer differs

from amt collected in winter. Consider NATURETHROID

hypothyroid herbs: use immune modulating herbs, glandulars, these

folx do ok on ARMOUR

heart: cretagus, magnesium, all the heart stuff

has found link btw diet coke (aspertame) and thyroid disruption

>I was just diagnosed the end of January with autoimmune

thyroiditis, my gland had been hurting for several months, it's inflamed. On

top of that, I was having horrible symptoms like anxiety and a fast pulse rate.

The problem was that the bloodtests kept coming back normal, including the

antithyroid antibodies test which is supposed to pick up autoimmune disease.

I...found my own endocrinologist, someone who prescribes the natural thyroid

hormone called Armour. Armour is not synthetic, ..I located a wonderful

group ...naturalthyroidhormones. I did find out a great deal about how to

help myself alternatively. One thing is to take selenium, I take 95 mcg in the

morning and 95 mcg at night, selenium is vital for thyroid function. I also now

eat more protein. And flax oil is great, however, stay away from borage oil

I'm not hypo or hyper, just have thyroiditis, and I discovered my

adrenals also factor into the equation. I'm doing a saliva hormone test for

that tomorrow, that you can get at canaryclub.com. Anyway, my autoimmune

thyroiditis is NO picnic, and I found out that it is linked to my chronic

lymphocytic leukemia, and those with cll are more prone to autoimmune disease.
