Guest guest
I am not sure of the mechanism of action of the histamine antagonists vs cancer. I have tried H2 blockers such as cimetidine and not seen much activity. I have tried H1 blockers such as promethazine and I've seen some benefit. Now a new class of histamine antagonists have been found (H3) to further confound the picture. These may well inhibit the growth of cancer, but remember that inhibition or slowing of cancer is still a death sentence. If such a drug is considered you must make sure that it does not suppress immune function and that it does not interfer with the rest of your program. Such determinations are not easy as there is very little published that can guide you. Unfortunately the only directly pertinent information that is available is testimonial. No one bothers to publish the testimonials of those who tried these things and failed. Guest guest
I don't think cimetidine's anticancer and immunostimulant activity has anything to do with it's antihistamine/H1 or H2 effects. I believe it's related to its hormonal activity and it's probably not a class effect since the other H2 antagonists don't have cimetidines hormonal side effects. Guest guest
Hi, It seems with people with HIV and cancers... Cimetidine has some immune suppressant effect.... HOWEVER contrary to that it also shows it is an AUTO IMMUNE REGULATOR... with people with normal immune systems... (NO cancer and NO HIV)... in the research with warts... (see the file/link section) giving Cimetidine assisted ridding people of these warts by REGULATING the immune system.... So it is the opposite effect on a normal person. Since children are considered to have a normal active immune system Cimetidine should NOT suppress the immune system... Instead it APPEARS to REGULATE the inflammatory process going on inside the children.... My son was on Cimetidine for 5 months... It did not work... however it did NOT make him get sick... or catch anything else.... I have NOT yet heard of anyone state that the Cimetidine increased illness' etc.... In HIV patients and cancer patients... there is an increase in pneumonia and some major fungal and yeast infections.... however none of this has EVER been mentioned with our kids who have used Cimetidine.... At least for as long as I have been running this group. There have been a couple of complaints of stomach distress... which is unusual too... Guest guest
Kristi, My son took cimetidine. Other than the fever episodes, he has been the healthiest of my 3 kids. He is off cimetidine (almost 2 years now) and fevers about 4-5 times/year but only to 103 and only for 2 days instead of 5. For us, this is quite an improvement. On or off cimetidine he rarely had ear infections and other normal kid viruses. Hope this and the other post put your mind at ease. Guest guest
CIMETIDINE My son (5) has been on cimetidine for exactly one month yesterday. Since the start of the treatment he has had 2 episodes exactly 2 1/2 weeks apart. During the first episode he ran what I call low grade for him of 100.4 to 101. Yesterday when we started a new episode he started at 101.5 and going as high as 104 and it has not stayed below 101 even after alternating tylenol and motrin every 2-4 hours. Does anyone have any idea how long before we see any results to know if it's working or not???? Last year was bad with every 2-3 weeks having an episode now that I have an answer to what he has that's comforting, but how can he have a normal life. Any info would be great since we are new to the group. ann New York

Guest guest
Fran. Thanks so much for the info. I really feel that this is never going to go away and it hurts me to see my son sick all the time. will be following up with his specialist in December to see how it's going. It is very strange how this condition works. He went 8 weeks over the summer with no problem and when school started it seems that the episodes became closer together again. His immune system has been tested and has come back normal with the exception of the high protein level that the specialist noticed that was taken during one of the episodes. I will keep my chin up. ann Mom to 5 yrs Middletown, NY CIMETIDINE ann Cimetidine can take MONTHS to " kick " in.... That is why the child should be kept on the medication for 6 months to SEE if they have an effect... then if they do at least another 6 months from the effective time.... to regulate the immune system. I do believe we have some children here who had no or little effect for 3-4 months... if not a little longer and then is stopped the fevers.... They remained on the medication for 6 more months to a year then weaned off... some then needed to go back on the medication for another repeat 6 months and finally came off with relief. Hope that helps. Fran Fran A Bulone Mom to ph 5 yrs old Waxhaw, NC Owner & Moderator Group

Guest guest
Hi ann, I don't post often, but try to read the posts. My took cimetidine. I had nearly given up when it finally worked. The first month on cimetidine, Josh had a very bad episode. We stuck it out and by the 5th month, he skipped the fever - still mouth sores, but no fever. Now off cimetidine for almost 2 years, he still cycles with reduced symptoms. We moved to 8 weeks, 10 weeks, no we are at 12 weeks. His episodes with fevers last no more than 48 hrs. and no higher than 103. Sometimes we just have the lethargy and mouth sores. Hang in there - if the cimetidine works...it changes your little ones life! Carolyn (, 5) land

Guest guest
(age 2) has been on Cimetidine since May. There was no change the first month. The second month, she had her fever on schedule, 28 days after the previous one. The fevers were still 104+ unmedicated (102+ medicated), but they were one day shorter (4 days rather than the usual 5) AND she could eat throughout the course of the fever. Previously, she wouldn't eat ANYTHING the entire 5 days of the fever. The third month, she had her fever on time, but it lasted only 48 hours and she was able to eat normally. This past month, her fever came 2.5 *WEEKS* later than her normal schedule. Her fever was only 102-103, so it responded well to medication. We were able to manage it with only Motrin every 6 hours rather than alternating Motrin and Tylenol every 3 hours as we had done previously (which still reduced the fever only to 102). The fever lasted only 2.5 days again. I'm hopeful that she will soon start skipping fevers. But even if we never completely skip one, the Cimetidine has improved her fevers so much that we will continue to use it as long as the Dr will let us. It's so hard to watch our children suffer. I was very disheartened when those first few post-cimetidine fevers came on schedule, but thanks to this group, I knew that results were sometimes very slow in coming. I was so afraid that our child may be one of the cases in which cimetidine never worked, but as you can see, we are starting to see positive results four months into its use. I hope you will see similar improvement with your child soon. Best wishes, Jamine Mom to (age 5) and (age 2, )

Guest guest
I just started giving my son, Shane Cimetidine this morning. Apparently, it tastes nasty. I was wondering if you mix it with something. Also, I hope I have the dosage right. Shane is 63 pounds. I give him a teaspoon in the morning and a teaspoon at night. Thanks for you input. Guest guest
It DOES taste nasty. I tasted just a drop of it, and it was perhaps the most disgusting medication I have ever tasted! I honestly don't know if mixing it with anything would help that much...it's terrible! would squirm and struggle to escape it for the first few weeks, but now she sucks it right down with no problems. I guess she just got used to it after a while...thankfully! takes 3 mL now, and she is 26 pounds. Sorry, I'm not sure what the dose would be for a child your son's age, but relative to my child's size and dose, 1 tsp sounds reasonable to me. I'm sure someone else here will be able to offer you some reassurance for you about the dosage. I know that cimetidine comes in tablet form for adults (tagamet). I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that children with may be able to take the tablets rather than the syrup after they're old enough to swallow a pill. Have you asked your doctor about that? Again, maybe someone else here who has older children may be able to offer more insight about that. Good luck with the medicine! Hope you'll see positive results very soon! Guest guest
's condition started 13 months ago that I know of. He was 4 at the time and had just started kindergarten. When I think back during his preschool year he was sick with fever but it was not like it was this past year. Normal child illnesses we were accustomed to. This last episode started on Sunday and lasted until early Wednesday. His fever ran from high this time as compared to the previous 2 which were much lower. I'm really hoping the Cimetide has a positive reaction. ann Mom to 5yr old Re: CIMETIDINE (age 2) has been on Cimetidine since May. There was no change the first month.

Thanks for you input. Beverly Dettis Re: CIMETIDINE (age 2) has been on Cimetidine since May. Guest guest
Thanks Jamine for the hope with use of cimetidine. My daughter (5) Has been on it not quite a month. We are due to cycle again Yikes this next week. It’s nice to hear about success with fairly simple measures. We did have more significant mouth sores with our last cycle and they persisted for a week after our last cycle was over. They didn’t even appear until the cycle was almost over. Odd because they have never been a big concern for her. Best wishes. Walton (5) Nanaimo BC Can Re: CIMETIDINE (age 2) has been on Cimetidine since May. There was no change the first month.
