Guest guest
Hi le: Time for sound thinking. Right now mom needs a good diagnostician for two reasons. Assuming it is what you would hope, wouldn't it be great to find out you have been worrying unnecessarily? On the other hand, knowing exactly what mom is facing might be the difference in having her around a lot longer than some might expect. I learned I had Bladder Cancer at age 70. Sound familiar? Initially I ignored the reports of routine but small amounts of blood in the urine (trace) with the last one " gross amounts " and then saw lots of it..............time to find out. I did. Now you need to find out. As for mom being suspicious of doctors? Join the fold. However, there's nothing like a good diagnostician. First find out what you are dealing with then deal with it. Keep in mind that no matter what you want, mom will probably do what she wants. That's what we all face with loved ones. My daughter-in-law had what she thought looked like a fiery beacon on her breast............it was a tumor but not Inflammatory. So get the facts. Joe C. From: mythjedi Sent: Monday, June 21, 2010 3:02 PM Subject: [ ] My mom. Hello. My name is le and I am a new member of the community. I discovered this group through a website called " Shirley's wellness cafe " and since I was already registered with I decided to join in the hope of attaining some information to help my mom. My mom turned seventy years old this past November. She is an amazing woman with so much strength, love, and faith. This past March she discovered what appeared to be a small but firm pimple on her right breast. Thinking that this was only a minor irritation she tried to treat it using very simple methods such as corn starch or medicated body powder to dry it up. However, it did not dry up. The " pimple " turned into a patch of irritated looking skin which was slightly itchy. At this point she sought my advice and I felt certain that she may have contracted a fungus infection. I had such an infection on my leg when I was younger, and what she had appeared to be the same thing that I had suffered with. So I recommended that she try an anti-fungal cream, which she did. After two weeks of trying said cream her condition was no better and still appeared to be spreading. Here we are today, June 21st, and her condition is worse than ever. It has spread across nearly the entire breast. It is very discolored. It has a reddish purple appearance, and also seems to have some scattered abcesses on it along with scaling, minor scabbing, and minor discharge. She is not in any pain, which I am so very thankful and grateful for. However, the situation is not improving. Hoping to help her I have been scouring the net for information and as you can already imagine I have come across the deadly and dreaded condition known as inflammatory breast cancer. I have also encountered another condition on-line- a breast infection which mirrors inflammatory breast cancer. Naturally we have been hoping that she is suffering with the infection and nothing more, but from what I have read on-line the infection doesn't often present in older women, and all of the signs seem to point to the worst. I have felt increasingly terrified to say the least. I keep searching- hoping to discover something that will bring hope. Instead I keep encountering a very bleak and devestating picture. Thus far my mom has not been to see a doctor. She is, to put it kindly, a bit suspicious of the medical profession. She has been her whole life, and therefore she raised her children to harbor that same suspicion. I am not defending her belief, I am not saying that she is correct, I am simply stating this in order to explain why she has not seen a physician after nearly four months. Being raised this way, I eventually came to be what I refer to as a " naturalist " . I suffer with irritable bowel syndrome and rosacea and I treat both on my own. I will admit that my diet still needs vast improvement, but I have made some changes along with taking probiotics daily. While I am not perfect, I would say that by following this method I am still far healthier than most people who I have seen who suffer with the same conditions that I do and who visit a doctor for them regularly. Since I am a believer in natural methods I searched on-line for natural treatments for breast cancer- assuming that my mom had this and that the worst scenario was happening. I came across Shirley's site yesterday evening and the volume of information both overwhelmed and encouraged me. When I seen that there was a discussion forum available I decided to join, hoping to learn more and to possibly attain some help if at all possible. I know that I am not certain what my mom has. I know that I am in no position to diagnose her myself, or to ask anyone else to do so. However, if anyone here has an idea of what this could be, I would greatly appreciate any feed-back or information. I keep hoping that perhaps this could be something less serious than cancer, but perhaps I am wrong to hope. Second, regardless of what it is I know that turning to natural foods and supplements certainly couldn't hurt, and if anyone has any advice on that as well I'd appreciate it too. I read about organic flax seed oil and Marine Phytoplankton at Shirley's site and I'd love to know more. Thank you for reading this, and for your help, kindness and support. le. Guest guest
Hi, le and welcome! Joe is right - its important to get the right diagnosis, whatever that may be, and then you can find out how to attack it naturally. The people here and in other groups are SO knowledgeable and helpful about many different areas of natural medicine. I'm sure you'll get plenty of useful information to help your mom heal in a way that she is comfortable with. Good luck and please keep us updated! > > Hi le: > > Time for sound thinking. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! I appreciate it greatly:) I have discussed seeing someone to obtain a diagnosis, but as Joe said my mom is going to do what she feels is right in the end, and fortunately or unfortunately (depending upon how you look at it) I doubt that she will see anyone. That is why I decided to stop by here and to try to obtain some information. I am not looking for anyone to diagnose or treat this for her, as I know that isn't possible. However, any information or suggestions are appreciated greatly:) I've already spoken with her about adding supplements and A LOT more fruits and veggies into her diet. She seems very enthusiastic about this idea and I'll be heading to the store this Wednesday to start shopping for what she needs. Are there any basic supplements that I should be looking for? My mom suggested iron, as she has been feeling run down with all of this. She already takes a standard multi-vitamin daily. I've been looking into black salve as well. If she does have an infection I am hoping that this would draw it out, and if she doesn't, well I am not expecting a " miracle cure " but I am hoping that perhaps it might help at least somewhat so that she can begin to change her lifestyle and build up her body and immune system. Since the discoloration seems to encompass the entire breast, I am very pessimistic about this being IBC. The one hope I have is that I have read repeatedly that IBC is one of the most painful breast cancers there are, but my mom doesn't have any pain. Of course I know that it can be different for everyone, but I am clinging to any trace of hope that I can find at this point. As I said, any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Basically, if she won't see anyone, I think it may be best to treat this as if it were the worst scenario, and then even if it isn't, doing natural treatments can't hurt her in my humble opinion, it can only help to build her up. Thank you all again! le.
Guest guest
Research the Budwig Protocol and start today. Stop taking iron - it feeds some tumors. Without knowing if it is cancer, you are limiting the ability to choose the proper protocol. Breast cancer - hormone positive? Or triple negative? It could change the options for treatment. My mother's last cohesive statement to my sister while on her death bed was, " I was a fool. " That's because she refused to treat the cancer while it was still treatable. ar
Guest guest
Sandy- Thank you for your kind welcome and the link, I will definitely check it out. I will also look into the Budwig protocol. I admit that my mom's refusal to see anyone does complicate the situation, but as Joe said yesterday evening, I cannot force her hand. I can only present her with the information that I have and then try my best to support and care for her from there. I hope that some of the methods suggested here will be of help. Thank you again. le.
