Guest guest
Hi group, I am 55, originally from Wisconsin, but living for about 15 years in Java, Indonesia. I have been interested in alternative health protocols since around 1970, and attended workshops by people such as Paavo Airola and the herbalist . I was a vegetarian for around 7 years (even went on a 100% fruit diet for several months in 1976 -- great cleanser), and have generally been a very healthy person. Over here, compared to other ex-pats, I have never had many of the local illnesses that even short-term visitors get (like Dengue Fever). I used to eat a lot of local papaya, the equivalent of 3 whole Hawaiian " Solo " variety papayas, each day. I attributed my generally good health to that. I eat little meat and do not drink alcoholic substances. In recent years occasionally I noticed a slight heaviness feeling in the liver zone. Earlier this year I had a complete physical exam, and the only thing that was abnormal was an elevated AST/SGOT and ALT/SGPT level. The heavy feeling has mostly disappeared, and I have never had what would be called an excruciating GB attack. I plan on doing a Hulda liver cleanse soon, but I have one good question about the protocol (recipe): What can I substitute for grapefruit juice? I can get limes, lemons, various imported mandarin citrus fruits, but in years of living here, I have never once seen a grapefruit sold in any shop, supermarket or traditional wet-market. Does anyone have a recommendation? What property (acidity?) of the grapefruit is the key to substitute? I am not sure of canned juice is available, and if it is, would it work the same way??? We do have large shaddocks (pomelo) at certain times of the year, and while these are the closest relatives to grapefruit, tend to be quite very pulpy, hard to extract juice from, and tough (lots of fiber). Few people probably know shaddocks or pomelos, sinc ethey are similar to grapefruit in flavor but inferior in every other way (except size -- they can be up to volleyball size, with a superthick skin. So does anyone have any suggestions for me? I know that grapefruit is so common that 99% of you have never given this the slightest thought.
