These generalizations may be true enough, but perhaps there is more

to the story. When a cancer patient is taking chemos/antimetabolites

that depend on maintaining a high blood level, foods that encourage

the growth of cancer (milk, sugar, glutamine) actually contribute to

the cancer cell's suicide. These can be productively used with PARP

inhibitors such as niacinamide and curcumin. PARP inhibitors can

make it very difficult for damaged cancer cells to repair DNA breaks.

In general the chemo patient has such a tough row to hoe, it can be

quite an important break to find a little indulgence. When the will

to live is being ground down, it can be a life saver to give a

dietary treat, or for that matter relieving pain with a

immune-dampening opiates and steroids.

For an oncologist to recommend chemo and milkshakes can be ignorance,

or cleverness, or maybe a carrot and whip strategy. One can always

question the oncologist without burning bridges, " Which of the chemos

I am using is being taken up faster by the sugar and milk? " At least

you are encouraging him/her to think about it for a second.
