This alkalinization is theorized to have a protective effect against the formation of free-radicals that may cause nephropathy. Dr. Metro Earlier and more frequent use of sodium bicarbonate was associated with higher early resuscitability rates and with better long-term neurological outcome. Sodium bicarbonate is beneficial during CPR.[2] The most effective measure to treat RT-induced mucositis in patients with head and neck cancer is frequent oral rinsing with a sodium bicarbonate rinse, to reduce the amount of oral microbial flora.[3] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.urotoday.com/38/browse_categories/renal_cancer/sodium_bicarbonate_\ infusion_found_to_reduce_risk_of_contrastinduced_nephropathy.html [2 Resuscitation outcome in emergency medical systems with increased usage of sodium bicarbonate during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
