Excerpts from Aug 7 post:

Dr Kobayashi in Tokyo does what could be one of the most extensive panel of

tests to try to detect cancer at an earlier stage than with image screening. He

calls it the Tumor Marker Combination Assay (TMCA)....We had this test done

initially about 2 months ago for my wife's breast cancer, and the abnormal data

repeated again after 1 month and so on to monitor the success of the treatment.

Dr Gordon writes about Dr Kobayashi's TMCA on his website, and

believes it to be very good. He explains some of the components of the

TMCA. The test isn't available in America anymore, after the September

11 terrorist attacks, because blood samples need to be sent in dry ice.

Here are some more details, if anyone is interested. I believe he's been

doing the TMCA for 10-20 years now, so he's had a lot of time to see

patterns in thousands of people. Basically he is more of a researcher

and scientist who practices what he learns clinically. A lot like say Dr

Francisco Contreras of the Oasis Of Hope in Mexico. So the best choice

would be to visit him in his clinic in Tokyo if you are interested in

the test. It's in a famous tourist area called Asakusa and a nice place

to visit.

The website is mostly Japanese, but email address and phone number is

there.

I was thinking some people might be able to adapt the test by pulling

out the most important items and get ideas from the data sheet, and do

them in their own country if they felt it might give them more

information about their health.

In addition to the TMCA, they also do autonomic nervous system tests and

a few other things which are quite unique and impressive I think.

The Immune Activity (T cell number, PHA Lym, SI, and Natural Killer cell

activity) are the most expensive part of the Assay. Another doctor I

asked said immune activity tests are not usual, and said they were not

so useful. But I think that's to be expected, since they have different

thinking.

You'd have to contact him to get a quote. Altogether, depending on what

tumor markers are added or subtracted, expect around 120,000yen

(US$1200).

I guess it would be similar cost in the US or elsewhere if all these

things are tested?? But I have no idea. Medical tests are usually not

cheap are they? I guess we want to avoid doing CTs, PET scans and

Mammograms which detect only a much later stage and have side effects.

He only uses ultrasound. But patients can choose to get scans elsewhere

if they want of course.

In our case he tested 21 tumor markers (CEA, Ferritin, PSTI, Sialic

Acid, ALP, LDH, AFP, Tymidine Kinase, Elastase 1, RNase, CA 15-3, B CA

225, CA 19-9, TPA, HCG, Pepcinogen I, II & III, Beta-2 Microglobulin,

NTx and TRACP-5b.

The others were about 70 other individual test results.

We had Vitamin D as 25(OH)D, tested as well, which was 7000yen (US$70).

He'd never had that tested before, but I thought it would be good to

know since Dr Mercola recommended it and it made sense. I don't think

vitamin D testing is very popular usually in Japan, and even in the US,

I guess it's only recenly becoming more popular. We got 47 ng/ml with

6000 IU vitamin D3 supplementation per day, started about 3 weeks before

the test.

There's an excellent vitamin D video here.

Our 2nd follow-up test was half the original cost because he only tests

the abnormal data again, plus the important tumor markers etc.

He does a number of cancer therapies for those with cancer, and

recommends lifestyle changes and tailored therapies for those who are

detected to be at higher risk of developing cancer based on the test

results. He's also been treating people with Hepatitis with high dose IV

vitamin C for many many years.
