Guest guest
Hi Ira, I can not confirm nor deny this information. I can say that I do not drink or eat anything diet though. I personally don't take Aspartame either. I simply think it is very bad for people, especially growing children. I find it very distressing that children drink this stuff and it is in foods that children would find appealing. The information that I have read confirms my own personal beliefs, which I am not willing to change at this point. My belief is that diet stuff is bad for people. It seems to me that as I look around at my friends and acquaintances who drink the diet drinks that they are just getting fatter. It certainly doesn't seem to be working to help them to lose weight. In fact, it seems to be doing just the opposite from the people I know. I don't know if it is the diet drinks themselves or not. The other foods seem to replace the low-fat with high sugar. To me, this is worse than the fat. I probably am not the person to respond to this, because I think that juicing store bought fruits and vegetables can have lots of pesticides in them. I do juice, but, I tend to grow my own produce or buy it from people who I know don't put chemicals on it. So, I can only imagine what kinds of chemicals would be in store bought juice, which is what I'm assuming this study used. I feel like I'm rambling. I'm not really sure what this subject has to do with liver/gallbladder cleansing unless you are concerned about the quality of the apple juice you are using to fast with. If that is the case, for the cleanse, I think it is pretty un-important in the big picture. The most important thing is to actually do the cleanse to help the body rid itself of these stones. Just my opinion on the subject, Karma > I found the following information and am interested to know whether > any of our members can confirm or deny it. > > My only request is that any responses be made in a civil manner. > > >In fact, a glass of tomato juice provides about five times as much > >methanol as a similar amount of diet soft drink containing > >aspartame. Guest guest
Where did you get your information? >Jeanne I got it from the internet. I am wondering if anyone has information to corroborate this statement, or any reason to cast a doubt on it. ____________________ Jeanne, Here is a quote about aspartame at Dr. Mercola's: " It has been pointed out that some fruit juices and alcoholic beverages contain small amounts of methanol. It is important to remember, however, that methanol never appears alone. In every case, ethanol is present, usually in much higher amounts. Ethanol is an antidote for methanol toxicity in humans. " I've read before that tomato juice has methanol in it, but it has the ethanol to counteract its effects. The best way to find that something may be bad for you is to stop using it. If a person stops drinking diet drinks or having stuff with aspartame in it, then they will have positive health effects when they quit. This is what happened with my husband and I. We used to drink diet cold drinks. Not only do I no longer have stomach acid problems, but just 3 days off the mess and we were clear-headed. I didn't realize it before. I used to have headaches and they ceased. I would say aspartame is very dangerous. Susie
Guest guest
Susie, I agree with you. Do you remember a sugar free candy called Velamints. I don't know if aspartame was in it but it would give me such gas pressure that at times I thought I was having a heart attact, so I don't mess with foods like that . Also, I do want to state this, whether anyone agrees with me or not that's their business, but our creator created a bunch of good, healthy foods for us to eat. So I eat and enjoy his foods which he created for my enjoyment without the worry of methanol poisoning. Take care, Susie

Guest guest
Hi all, Just wanted to add my two cents to this discussion, from personal experience. I used to drink Diet Coke all the time.....I loved it. I probably drank up to 32 oz. of it per day...sometimes more. I used it as a diet aid...to keep me feeling full, and from eating other foods. It did help in that regard. However, I experienced headaches, on a regular basis. I finally gave it up after I started experiencing severe tinnitus-ringing in my ears-which I found could be caused by aspertame use (sorry, I don't remember the source of that info.). It was very hard giving it up, but within one week of doing so, the tinnitus was gone...never to return. The headaches also disappeared. Guest guest
The stomach acid problems were most likely caused by the carbonation in the diet cola. Carbon dioxide gas added to water makes carbonic acid (H2CO3). The little H+ ions floating around are identical to those present in any inorganic acid solution. hmm.....that's funny, Ira. Occasionaly I have a regular Coke and never have the same problem, but once just to see how it affected me, i.e., if I wasn't dreaming or anything, about 3 months after I gave up diet drinks, I happened to try a diet coke at a friend's house. I had the same problem with my stomach. Susie
