Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could send me links to scientific info regarding the

effects of chemo on the digestive tract. I have read online that chemo can

have a particularly harsh effect on the intestines and would like to better

understand how this could relate to recovery from colon cancer.

I was also wondering if there is anyone with colon cancer that would be willing

to share their experiences with chemo (did it prevent recurrence? would you do

it again? etc.) Please feel free to email me off the board if you feel more

comfortable.

I really appreciate it. I am just trying to gather as much info as possible

about treatment options and what might be best for colon/intestinal health.

Thanks again,

Kind Regards,

Kim

hi, my husband stage III b colon cancer, had the adjuvant chemo

oxaliplatin and oral capecitabine for six months in 2006

after surgery....he is 53 months out of surgery and he is

alive and well. Did this conventional chemo (very toxic)help him?

Sincerely, we do not know.We were said chemo reduces recurrence risk of 23

percent....not big deal....but conventional oncology

does not have anything better to offer...

I have a friend who recently finished chemo for colon cancer, he also had

surgery. But more specifically, I endured one chemo treatment for NHL and the

chemo has been particularly harsh on my digestive system. Of course, its

different chemo drugs than they use for colon cancer, I'm pretty sure, but now I

suffer from GERD and my stomach is always....just not right. I can't even

describe it, its just always upset. I take a pill every morning which helps,

but I feel like I'm always suffering from slight heartburn and I keep sipping

carbonated drinks to settle it.

I've read a lot about it and chemo is extremely hard on your stomach! Don't

know if it lasts much longer after chemo is done, but I hope so.
