Guest guest
, I have found that the Heparin that I am on is my Hypobaric Oxygen Chamber. I can finally breathe better and as a consequence all of my other funcions are better. I can sleep well at night! And I naturally wake up in the morning like I used to do, not sleep til noon, like I was before the Heparin. Lyon

Guest guest
I am O+. I had such a bad case of Candida (from all the antibiotics had taken as a teenager). I don't know if you know about Candida, it can make you ill with whatever you may be susceptible to at the time: so it can make you ill with arthritis, or anything - if that is your weakness. So basically I nearly died from morning sickness. One day I threw up for 9 hours straight - I was so tuggered out I couldn't even lift my little finger. Another day I threw up so much I couldn't breath for some time. Moral of the story: make sure you don't have Candida from anti-biotics when falling pregnant! Well it was good that this made me discover Naturopathy and healthy living. I was able to raise a pure bodied child who is extremely strong and healthy. JK 's post >They made me very ill so that I nearly died while I was pregnant. , if you don't mind, I was wondering what happened? (Also, I've forgotten, are you O+ or 0-? Thanks, C.B. Guest guest
JK, Yup..when I was younger I had terrible time with spermacides, penicillin, and sulfide medications. It seems like anything would flare up a case of Candida. I found a little cure that worked wonders, it is called Lactinex....and basically has active bacteria in it, that you would find in yogurt, chew 4 tablets 3 times a day and within 24 hrs the Candida would disapper, it was almost like magic, even better it was TOC and not prescription. Guest guest
Thanks Dawn. I never have a problem now. That was YEARS ago. I have a few favourite pro-biotics that are fantastic along with grapefruit seed extract to kill the baddies. But I haven't needed them at all in a few years and ER has helped, too. I'm sure others can benefit from your recommendation. JK 's post > > > >They made me very ill so that I nearly died while I > was pregnant. > > , if you don't mind, I was wondering what > happened? Guest guest
Dear , I read your post and my heart really goes out to you. I know exactly how you feel and, to a certain extent, I still feel the way you describe. Also, I know the limitations you face with the HMO because I'm on an HMO too. Recently, it finally got to the point with my doctor where I felt like I HAD to make a change - even though it meant switching to a doctor who was unknown to me and who was a 40-minute drive away. So far, I am glad I made the switch. At least my new doctor is sincerely trying to help me and has run three times as many tests as the old doctor. I know it's a tough decision to make. My HMO will only let me change one time a year. I wish you all the best and HANG IN THERE! It really is true that " the darkest hour is just before the dawn. " My thoughts and prayers are with you. Guest guest
Hi Did you go on the Prednisone because of the fevers, or were your joints giving you problems at the time, too? When my knees were bad-it was sooo weird-I would have pain in one spot on one day, and then in a different spot the next-both days, bad enough that I was looking for a cane. The next day I was fine. The worst pain was my wrists, and fingers, but as I said, the Celebrex seems to be working. A big wave to you in Buffalo from St. Catharines, Ontario! Heidi Re: no fevers Hi Heidi, I know what you mean about feeling like a rookie with this disease. I had daily fevers for the first 2 and a half months (I was diagnosed in May 2002) and then I was finally put on prednisone which lessened the severity and how often I got them right away. I was only put on 15 mg and now I'm down to about 6 mg and I'm also on remicade. My fevers have never gone away completely. The longest I've gone is 2 weeks without one and that was a while ago. I feel lucky if I can get down to 1 per week. They're usually the worst when I'm either weaning off the pred. or if the remicade starts wearing off. But still, they're nothing like they were in the beginning - usually 103-104.5. So my fevers and the pain seemed to have been helped right away by the pred. But after about 8 months I developed problems with my knees. So sometimes I feel like I'm progressing and sometimes I don't. I have been feeling good lately, so I have to say I'm cautiously optimistic right now. Anyway, I agree too that I've read what others have gone through and that maybe I don't have it as bad, but I think that's normal. Everyone's different. Well I hope this info. helps. Take care. Guest guest
Hi , I am so glad you had fun on your trip. I have always wanted to play laser tag, but because I was so heavy, I would never participate (now I can't wait for a chance). Your post was pretty wonderful -- DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE WEIGHT! You do count from the LOWEST weight, -- no looking backwards. You'll take off this water weight quickly, you know. Rest and recovery and get the fluid out of those legs and you will find it makes all the difference. I know what you mean about your heart going out to the young girl with the weight problem. It breaks my heart, especially when they are junior high or high school age -- I know how it feels to be left out and it just makes me want to cry for them. I can just imagine the photo of in fishnets and strapless dance hall outfit (no wonder 's eyes popped out)! Are you going to post the photo? Congratulations to the kids on doing (and behaving) so well! Hugs and blessings -- and happy anniversary! Ann

Guest guest
Something to consider about the current administration's grant proposal re: community outreach... First of all, the concept of a Community Outreach program for LPA was originally conceived, developed, and implemented by Barbara Brullo Spiegel, before she left her position as VP of Public Relations. Matt and his group may have submitted a grant proposal, but it doesn't necessarily mean they were awarded any funds or got their version of Barbara's program off the ground. When they moved to Maine, Barbara and Rick Spiegel got the originally conceived program off the ground through the Northern New England chapter they founded. It's easy to be impressed by a grant with lots of fancy language and talk of stipends for volunteers...however, the Spiegels are making this program happen, and reaping benefits, here and now. Rick Spiegel and his team will soon have more information about the Community Outreach program on www.lpa4people.org. Check it out! Guest guest
Hi Patti, I can't wait!!! I will be having a test done next Tuesday to find out why the hearing in my left ear is fluctuating. I think it may be due to eustachian tube problems and/or allergies, but I don't know for sure. Hopefully the test next week will explain why this is happening. I'm also a little worried right now because over the past week I've noticed that my right HA isn't giving me enough amplification even when the volume is turned all the way up. I've cleaned the ear mold, changed the battery, checked the tubing -- all to no avail. My CI audi said the hearing in my right ear dropped significantly since April, but I'm hoping it's not a continual progression because it's the only ear I have speech discrmination in. Guest guest
Hi ! Good luck with that test next Tuesday! I hope they find out why your hearing is fluctuating. I was born with profound bi-lateral sensori hearing loss, which was not diagnosed until I was 6 years old. I am grateful to have been born into a large and loud family! ;-) Seasonal allergies have always made my hearing go up and down until 2002 when I woke up with the bulk of the rest of my residual hearing gone. I was put on a wait and see what happens. When my hearing didn't bounce back by the middle of September, it was my HA audie who encouraged me to go see my current ENT who does cochlear Implants. It's been quite a journey for me! And one I am glad I finally took. In answer to your other question, no, I have not put together a journal...yet. I did mean to do a journal; but I just never got around to it. I do have all my emails that highlight my journey and my CI Moments so it's just a matter of putting everything in order and typing it all up or just bounding them together. Good luck to you, ! Guest guest
Patti, How did your HA audi determine that your progressive hearing loss was caused by allergies? The reason I ask is because I experience popping in both ears (worse in my left ear than my right) and I'm also allergic to cigarette smoke. I've had both of these problems for as long as I can remember and never thought about how they might contribute to fluctuations in my hearing. Something else I find interesting is the fact that I always notice changes in my hearing during the summer and autumn months -- almost never in the winter. Guest guest
Hi ! My progressive hearing loss was not caused by allergies; but rather seasonal allergies made my hearing fluctuate up and down. Ok? There is a big difference there. , it really wasn't hard to figure out that my allergies were affecting what little hearing I did have with an aid. As soon as hayfever season hit, my ears would clog up thus making everything sound even more muffled. My primary care physician confirmed it. My HA audie had nothing to do with diagnosing the allergies and their relation to my hearing. It was my primary care physician who told me that my hearing was down (even more for me) due to the allergies after looking in my ears. It was me who told the audiologists about having allergies and fluctations during the year whenever I would go for my evaluations. I could always count on my hearing being worst from March-October thanks to hayfever and ragweed seasons. My hearing was pretty bad to begin with anyway. My hearing loss and vision problems are due to being born with water on the brain. I have no aidable hearing in my right ear and I only have one optic nerve so I just count finger stubs with my right eye if my left eye is covered. For a number of years I did quite well with a hearing aid in my left ear, with speechreading; of course and I have 20/40 corrected vision in my left eye. I hope I have answered your question and didn't go on and on too much. Feel free to ask more questions. Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Hook Up Day 1/2/03 (A Happy Day!) Guest guest
Hi Patti, Okay, now I understand. <smile> Thanks for the clarification! I've never been tested for allergies. In the past when I've told my doctor about the popping sensation I have in both ears, he said it was a normal part of sensorineural hearing loss. I'm going to discuss this with my CI audi to see what she thinks about my taking Claritin and/or Flonase before my hearing and speech tests in August. I do notice that if I plug my nose and blow, everything sounds louder until the next time I swallow. I hope my CI audi can figure out why this is happening because it so very confusing to say the least.

Guest guest
Hi ! I used to get scolded for plugging my nose and blowing hard. It sure did bring some louder sounds in briefly. I'm sorry if my earlier post confused you. , I grew up in a loving family on a very tight budget. I went to a city hosptital clinic for all my hearing evaluations. I was lucky to get the same audie 4 years in a row. But, always saw a different ENT as they were all Residents so they moved on. Growing up, I didn't get very many answers about my hearing loss and why it was progressing. The thing that botherd me when I was in my teens was the distortion. No one could tell me why it was getting worse. As for the hearing go up and down, that was easy, in my case anyway, because it went down everytime I was congested so everytime I had allergy symtoms or a cold it would go way down and come back afterwards. I am currently on Flonase and so far it's the best allergy medicine I have ever taken! But, now that I have the CI, my hearing does not fluctuate. But, it's still a mystery about what happened to me in 2002 that caused the bulk of the rest of my aidable hearing to go and for my eye pressure to rise enough for me to be diagnosed with Glaucoma. Sometimes there are no answers. Things just happen. Good luck to you, ! Patti
Guest guest
Thanks, Patti! <smile> I'm sure I'll feel much better once I get the test results back next week. I'm also looking forward to the hearing and speech tests next month so that I can find out whether or not my hearing has stabilized in both ears. I agree...it's really difficult when no one can tell you why you're losing your hearing. I found out a few years ago that my hearing loss was caused by low birth weight and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). I was diagnosed with a mild hearing loss at age 3. Ear specialists recommended ear surgery or hearing aids, but my parent's health isurance did not cover either one. When I was 7, hearing aids were once again recommended, but my parent's health insurance wouldn't pay. My parents tried applying for Medicaid but made too much money to quality. By the time I was 16, I received my first pair of hearing aids. By then, my hearing loss had progressed into the the moderate/moderately severe range. Once I turned 18 and started to receive social security disability for my blindness, I was lucky enough to have annual visits with an audiologist and ENT. I'm so thankful for this because I know how difficult it can be to work with private insurance. This is one of the things I worry about dealing with once I'm employed. Hopefully by then, I'll have my CI and most (if not all) of the mappings I need will be behind me.
