Awww, , you are very welcome! I really didn't do anything

though. I just shared my experiences with you. This is what this

forum is all about.....sharing ideas and experiences with others and

supporting others. I was really happy to get to know you better via

your posts. I am looking forward to following your journey out of

muffleness. Again, good luck on Tuesday! Oh, I forgot to tell you

that it wasn't until my CI Candidacy appointment that I found out

that I actually was born with Goldenhaar Syndrome. My CI ENT took

one look at me and said, to my Dad, " Did anyone ever mention

Goldenhaar Syndrome to you people? " After it was written down for

me, and we both said no, he said that that's what I was born with.

He said, I have all the hallmarks of it except for deformed ears. I

couldn't believe it as he recited the hallmarks and I had it. It

was amazing to discover after 39 years why I am the way I am. It

does'nt change anything for me; but it explained why I am much

different than my siblings. I will list the hallmarks to satisfy

any curiosities out there: Uneven skeletal structure, hearing loss,

vision loss, water on the brain, dental problems, high cleft palate

and deformed ears. There may be some more but I am not sure. I

really haven't done much research into Goldenhaar Syndrome so can't

discuss any further. Anyway, it was like a big relief to finally

know what caused me to be the way I am.

Good luck to you!

Patti

Have you noticed any kind of improvement in your hearing after taking

Claritin? Someone on another list told me that they gained up to 10 dB of

hearing after they started taking it. I've been thinking about taking

Claritin to see what happens in my case, but I may hold off until after all

of my tests just in case my CI audi is trying to rule out eustachian tube

problems.

,

My hearing in the HA ear has both fluctuated up and down and slowly

deteriorated despite the Claritin.

I'm hoping that my hearing will remain stable between now and the time I

have my hearing and speech discrimination tests in August. I think I'll

leave well enough alone because I don't want to cause the potential for any

further complications.

After re-reading my reply to you, I would like to add this cautionary

advice. An endoscopy will look inside your esophagus and stomach for

surface changes, i.e ulcers etc. Perhaps he is looking for an

additional cause of the swelling. You would think that can be

determined by the ugi without this additional expense but I don't know

what your surgeon may be suspecting. What I would be concerned about is

being on a cruise and being too tight. The excitment of a cruise,

weather changes, hormones, can cause additional swelling. Personally, I

would reread Sandy's post and think about this. Good luck, joanne in

seattle. Like Sandy I am an RN.

Thanks Deborah. I too am glad that i am not to have any more major surgery as

yet but i will try anything just so long as it helps my reflux. I next see the

Consultant in 6 months time for a review but in the meantime i shall try the

Nexium.

Hi, ,

I'm relieved to hear that you can try out Nexium and see how

it goes,

AS it goes.  I have been on Omeprazole every day for several years now and

just recently I've begun to take it at night, too. I think I've got my GURD

under

control now.  We'll see.

I think Nexium is a good medication.  I hope it helps you

absolutely.

I have been reading your posts with interest and I really feel better than you

can wait a bit before a major surgery.

         Best wishes,

               Deborah, at the beach
