Guest guest
I had my gallbladder out in Sept. and my surgeon told me that about 1% of the people may have gallbladder like symptoms come back in 5-10 years. He said that the ducts have closures at the end and they go in and clip it so that the opening is larger and stones can pass. So far I have had no complications from the surgery. I feel better than I have in all of last year. People who see me tell me that even my color is so much better. Personally, I am glad that I had the emergency surgery. Sara Lvquilting@... Guest guest
he surgeon did a laproscopy on me and told me that he was " lucky " to have been able to do my surgery this way cause my GB was filled with stones. Pearl, did they not do anything at all to you to check to see if you had stones in your bile ducts? I can't imagine. That is extremely important. The surgeon wouldn't have done surgery on me if he knew there were stones in my ducts. He wanted them cleaned out. I know that there's something they can do during surgery to check for stones too. Guest guest
Hello, When you have a cholecsystectomy to remove your gb they can (when you are on the operating table) put blue dye through your ducts and take a " photo " to see if anything is blocking them - saves them having to repeat the procedure of putting you under. It's the same sort of thing they do when they do a laparoscopy to see if a woman's fallopian tubes are blocked - know that from experience! When the doctors wanted to take my gb out they said that there was probably a stone or two blocking the ducts which was causing my jaundice, gallbladder pain and pancreatitis. They never said anything to me about removing any stones from the ducts prior to surgery, just that if they found stones after doing the dye procedure during the gb removal op that they would have me in theatre a few days later and do the ERCP (it's a tube down your throat when you are sedated). I was told that it is dodgy to leave any stones in the ducts as it can cause major problems. I have read somewhere on curezone about an American lady having this procedure done and they clipped her duct leading to the pancreas and it has made her extremely poorly, cut down her life expectancy type of thing as it's not repairable. I have managed to hang on to my gb so far, but when I was in hospital last time a lady in the same ward as me had gone to theatre to have her gb removed by keyhole & they clipped her pancreas before getting to the gb and so she has ended up with pancreatitis and her gb still in. She was in real pain, I can tell you. That scenario scared the hell out of me and made me determined to try and hang on to mine for as long as possible. The docs told me to have the gb removed while I am relatively young but the people I know of who have had theirs removed and are ok with no problems whatsover are in the minority. Some of my neighbours who had theirs removed say 5 years ago are now complaining of indigestion, acid, etc and they were told that there were no dietary restrictions whatsoever (as I was 4 months ago!). At least nowadays if you inform yourself well on this condition and have to lose your gb you know that you have got to watch your diet. As much as I would love a pizza, it's not worth the consequences. Have you ever tried to wash up after having cheese and found it clogs up the sink plughole - just think what stuff like that does to your insides?
