Hi,

Pleural infusion is when the lungs have fluid in them.

It can be drained out.

Have any of you heard of the gene therapy, also, what is the pleural infusion,

and how it can be treated once it happen

Thank you

Hi,

I have had pleural infusion and you need to keep an eye on that.

Lung will fill up with fluid pretty fast and breathing becomes impossible.

They drain the lung with incision on the back.

You can expect to be sore for about a week, but you will breathe easier.

The fluid does come back.

In my case there was still much fluid left and fear of having it coming back and

restricting breathing, had me starting Tarceva.

Tarceva is a chemo in the pill form.

It seems to work for non-smokers with lung cancer.

Since July of 2007, Tarceva has kept my fluid at bay (no more draining).

It helps body absorb it.

I still have a fair amount, but it does not interfere with my breathing.

Once you have had pleural infusion, you are no longer a candidate for a surgery

or radiation.

Cancer cells have been spread through the lung via fluid.

If you only have a mild problem with pleural infusion, ask your doctor if you

can go on lasix. I have read that may be helpful for some.

I hope this helps.

All the best,

Gloria

Hi,

Can tarceva help reduce fluid build up for a stage 4 cancer. He now

has a permanent drainage inserted which has to be drained when needed.

Thanks.

Hi,

My Doctor says Tarceva does reduce fluid in lung.

It prevents it from coming back and makes body absorb it.

I have stage IV lung cancer, also.

I am not doing any other chemo for now (my decision), and because of cancerous

cells found in the fluid - I do no not qualify for surgery or radiation.

So, I do Tarceva for Cancer.

Vicadin for pain.

Vegan diet, and mega supplements daily.

I take extra doses of omega-3 and omega-6 oils.

I also take cat's claw (herb), and a mega dose of milk thistle to keep my liver

functioning properly, since Tarceva did cause a problem at full strength

(150mg).

I am now on 100mg dose.

I try to juice every day (veggies only).

I hope this helps.

I wish you and your husband all the best.

Gloria
