Guest guest
I've been out of the loop for about a month or so, so I've not caught up on the posts that lead to this comment. It just so happens that I've had a mild case of psoriasis on both elbows and on the tops of both hands, right at the knuckles, for years. I've learned by trial and error which dietary variables contribute to the problem and which exacerbate it. But nothing I did cleared it up completely. There is also a direct relationship between stress levels and severity. I started iodine supplementation about 6 weeks ago - maybe two months. I'm up to 50mg. It did lighten the symptoms, but not enough to get me excited. Still, I figure it will continue to improve as dosage increases. I'm doing that sloooowwwwlllyyy. Two weeks ago, I started using homemade oleander soup. I made it in June, but just couldn't manage to make myself take it until recently. One week ago, I upped my daily dose of Vit D from 6,000iu to 8,000iu. Now, I'm getting a response that has me excited! With dramatic reduction of stress in Sept of last year, the patch on one hand completely disappeared. That was after major dietary and lifestyle changes but before iodine, oleander soup, and Vit D. As I said, iodine seemed to lessen the severity of the remaining three patches. As of this week, the patch on the other hand is very nearly gone, the patch on one elbow is very close to the same degree of healing as that hand, and the third remaining patch is down in severity by about 50%. I read in a study about Vit D and somthing else an incidental comment regarding Vit D and successful use of it for psoriasis treatment. Since the most discernible changes have seemed to come with the increase in Vit D, I'm going to bump up to 10,000iu and see what happens. As I've also read that there might be some relationship between severe Vit D deficiency and triple negative breast cancer (which I had a bilateral mastectomy but no other allopathic treatment for in March of this year) I'm thinking that this is a good idea all around - not just for the psoriasis. There is one other consideration. I read that psoriasis is related to a problem with protein digestion, and I am not willing to remove animal protein from my diet. I tried it and it leaves me quite ill to do that. I do only consume the cleanest organic bison, chicken and eggs I can get and avoid any dairy except goat milk and cheese - in small amounts and rarely, at that. SO, I started taking L-lysine and Bromelain at the same time that I started taking the oleander soup. I'm not up on all the ins and outs of amino acids like I am on some other things, but I thought it might help. Like others in this group, I simply cannot afford a lot of supplements and am trying to find a financial and healthy balance between expensive food and expensive supplements. Guest guest
What is your source of unsaturated fats? Guest guest
Hi, Bill. The only fats I consume are coconut oil, olive oil, and organic butter. The olive oil and organic butter, I use little of. The coconut oil, I use daily. I've read a lot about the saturated/unsaturated fats debate, and I'm no longer convinced that sticking to unsaturated fats is healthy. My skin and overall sense of wellbeing has improved remarkably, since I switched to my current selection and useage pattern. Guest guest
D'Ann, I didn't know that sticking highly unsaturated fats in your diet was unhealthy? I do not understand the reasoning behind this as I though such was essential to health. I was just wondering what you had of them in your program. I do use the Flax Oil/Yogurt Cheese combo and have found it does well for me, and my skin is in much better shape, as well as other considerations. I use the coconut oil a little and rarely any olive oil and no butter for now. I would use gee if I did.
