Distilled Water

My husband and I have been drinking distilled water for about 20 years. I've

always considered it the best type of water to drink. Dr. G. ,

who writes " Alternatives " newsletter (which I've subscribed to for about 30

years) feels the same way, and just wrote an article about " Getting the Best

Water " in his September issue. With regard to whether distilled water is

acidic, yes it is. But this is what Dr. said:

" It's true that the distilled water we drink is acidic, whether it comes from a

store-bought jug or is freshly made in a distiller at home. The acidity occurs

because carbon dioxide from the atmosphere dissolves in the water, creating a

very dilute solution of carbonic acid. The distilled water in a container

that's been sitting open for awhile could have a pH in the range of 6. (For

comparison, vinegar has a pH of about 4, or 100 times as acidic. And your

stomach juices have a pH in the range of 3.5, four times as acidic as vinegar.)

Your body responds to this trivial amount of acidity by producing more stomach

acid. So long as your digestive system is in good shape, and you're not taking

any medication to block the production of stomach acid, then the amount of

acidity from distilled water won't affect any body processes. "

Here are his comments about whether distilled water leaches minerals out of our

body.

" Supposedly, distilled water affects your body's mineral balance because it

doesn't have any minerals of its own. Most of the minerals we take in come from

food, not water. And the fact is that your kidneys do a fine job of keeping

your minerals in proper balance. The less you take in from your food and drink,

the less you'll lose through your urine. As long as your kidneys are

functioning normally, you'll have no problems drinking distilled water. "

Hope this helps clear up some confusion about distilled water. It's important

to use a good distiller such as ones made by Waterwise. That's the brand I've

used for 20 years.

that it is the best type of water to drink. Now I've read in a few places that

distilled water is the WORST type to drink, that it leeches minerals from your

body, etc.

water is best? Purified, spring or distilled - or other?
