More information about Vitamin D is found at

http://www.twinoaksbh.com/poisons.html , where it is pointed out that

>Vitamin D Toxic dose=30,000 IU/kg

I think that this is a much larger dose than is stated at the sites we

have visited earlier.

Another site, http://www.halalvitamins.com/fallacy_of.htm , states that:

>Because of its cheapness, vitamin D is always a favored one with which

>to load a proprietary food formula to gull the buyer into thinking it is

>highly " potent. " Our most authoritative work on the subject, " The

>Vitamins in Medicine " (3D) advises that " Vitamin D is an extremely

>powerful drug. " Poisoning has been widely reported, even being fatal, so

>that the use of large doses of vitamin D are only justified if the

>patient is under constant supervision. " The authors, Bicknell and

>Prescott go on to say that the synthetic forms of vitamin D are more

>poisonous than natural forms, and that fish liver sources only should be

>used in case of high " potency " doses. The danger of the synthetic

>vitamin D is exemplified by the report in the Journal of the A.M.A. by

>Bauer & Freyburg (12) who tell how children have been fatally poisoned

>by the synthetic form when given in no greater amounts than recommended

>by the maker for the prevention of rickets.

>

>(3) The Vitamins In Medicine, Bicknell & Prescott, Publisher Grune &

>Stratton. June, 1951. a.Pg. 180, b.Pg. 269, c. Pg. 73, d. Pg. 696

>(12) Journal of A. M. A., " Vitamin D Intoxication with Metastic

>Calcification, " Bauer & Freyburg, 130:1208, April 27, 1946.

Perhaps someone has more comprehensive information?

I apologize for losing the number, which mysteriously disappeared in the

crevices of my computer.

The quote should have read:

> " Vitamin D can be lethal if taken at doses of 10 mg/kg. "

And the following sentence should have read:

>Please calculate what the lethal dose in IU would be for your weight,

and conclude the extent to which your dosage is safe.

Again, the errors that appeared were unintentional, minor and

regrettable.

This is extremely curious, Ira. You show a great propensity for researching

the internet when you are pointing out the dangers of overzealous self

health. However, when someone mentions the benefits of resonable and " in

moderation " self-health you act like you are internet illiterate and need to

be spoon fed each and every fact and URL. Hmmm......

At or about 12:15, 07/10/02 -0500, V. Richter was astute enough to

Thank you for your thoughtful criticism.

If you have anything to say on the substance, please say it. And I will

be pleased to discuss the subject.
