Guest guest
Please read at Dr. Mercola's website about Vit. D. The website address is: http://www.mercola.com/2002/feb/23/vitamin_d_deficiency.htm Here is a little copy of what he says in one of his articles: Test Values and Treatment for Vitamin D Deficiency Before considering supplementation with vitamin D, it would be wise to have your vitamin D level tested. This is best done from a nutritionally oriented physician. It is very important that they order the correct test. The advantage of having your medical doctor perform the test is that it will usually be covered by your medical insurance. Eventually, Krispin Sullivan, my nutritionist mentor in vitamin D, hopes to have an inexpensive saliva hormone test that you will be able to do through the mail. In the meantime, the blood test is best route to monitor vitamin D levels at this time. Don't Be Fooled -- Order the Correct Test There are two vitamin D tests -- 1,25(OH)D and 25(OH)D. The first is active D, which is often normal even when the precursor, 1,25(OH)D, is insufficient. 25(OH)D is the better marker of overall D status. It is this marker that is most strongly associated with overall health.

You have previously demanded information from members of this list that you could have very easily obtained from a simple word search on your favorite search engine, and then you got offended when you were ignored. Now with your new found knowledge of how to search the internet, you can get your own information any time you want. Now, in order to protect yourself from the established medical field, you may want to consider making this same special effort to search for answers to your own health problems all over the internet. Please consider searching further than the conventional medical wisdom though, or you may end up with the results of conventional medical treatments. Guest guest
Ira and Tish, Thanks for the info. I appreciate your conscern but, this is not something I self-medicated myself with. I am being seen by a endocrinologist who prescribed the 50,000 IU of Vit D *once* per *week* for eight weeks to help my body store calcium because although my blood levels of calcuim were normal my calcium stores were low and my parathyroid was high. Hi, Naomi, Sorry that you're having a problem right now. I sure hope that it gets better. When I answered about the Vit. D episode, it was because Ira said something. Since I've been so busy on jobs, I didn't realize where the idea for the Vitamin D post even originated from. I just supposed Ira was " possibly " concerned " truly " about something. However, Naomi, it sounds like your docs have it all under control They know what they're doing this for and why. So I do hope that it all works out. Please keep us updated, okay? I'm sorry that I'm tied up, but I really have been. I'll try to watch for your posts. Take care, Susie
(I personally think my stores were low because I have been pregnant or nursing for 5 years!) Anyway, the only reason I brought that up to this group is that my gallbladder attack started 8 hours after my last dose of Vitamin D. Knowing that Vit D is a form of cholesterol and that the Vitamin D is making me store more calcium, I am conscerned that this contributed to my major gallbladder attack. I mentioned that I was taking Vit D to my surgeon and the ER docs and they just blew me off because they just want me to have my BG out. I personally think that it did have something to do with my attack but my docs will not verify. I have a call in to the endocrinologist because she sent me another prescription for another 8 weeks of Vit D. (As a side note the package warning says not to take megadoses of any other vitamin while taking vitamin D -- apparently it helps with absorbtion) Thanks again. Naomi P.S. I have been pain free for 1 week and I have been exercizing every other day and still slowly losing weight!!!! Yay!!! > Please read at Dr. Mercola's website about Vit. D. I have been asking whether the dosage was prescribed by a doctor, but until now you did not reply. That is an extremely large dosage, but since you are under medical supervision, I presume that no harm has been done. --------------------------- IRA L.
