Guest guest
Vandana - I use agave nectar on my oatmeal in the morning and I like it a lot. It's more expensive than other sweeteners (like honey for example). But it seems to be sweeter than honey, so you don't need as much. I think it's also supposed to be better for you too, but I don't remember why. Does anyone know? I can buy an organic kind in my local grocery store. Guest guest
Carol, I know that agave nectar is lower in calories than honey and sugar and very low on the glycemic index. I have to agree, I found Stevia to have an after taste. This brand name is Wholesome Sweeteners. It is organic with a low glycemic index. so It absorbs slowly into the body preventing sugar spikes in the blood. The after taste is less than most honeys. Guest guest
Oh, it is TOTALLY yummy! I could eat it right off the spoon. Kind of like pancake syrup without the maple flavor, though they do make a maple-flavored agave now ... some Ezekiel bread, some organic, free-range eggs, and some cinnamon .... topped w/organic butter and maple agave ... ahhhhh, heaven for the French toast lover who misses it! LOL xxoo > > I find Stevia to have an aftertaste. I was wondering if anyone here has tried Agave Nectar, and if you can describe it. Guest guest
I love stevia! I've not tried agave. But I've also been told that it doesn't raise glucose levels.
Guest guest
I switched brands of Stevia. We use NOW brand which i don't find to have any bitter aftertaste. Even dear hubby said it is hardly noticeable at all. > > I find Stevia to have an aftertaste. I was wondering if anyone here has tried Agave Nectar, and if you can describe it. Guest guest
I prefer stevia by NOW Foods since i don't get the bitter aftertaste. >I've tried agave and found it quite bland compared to honey. Below is a comparison between agave and honey by ehow. Quite perplexing. info on agave. " Glycemic Index The glycemic index rates the effect a sweetener has on blood sugar levels, with lower numbers signaling less overall impact. Honey is usually between 65 and 85 on the index, whereas agave, which contains mostly fructose, can be as low as 11 to 30. Fructose Unfortunately, fructose is linked with a variety of negative health impacts, particularly because it must be metabolized by the liver. Though agave has a lower glycemic index rating, its high fructose content can actually aggravate diabetes over time. " melly >
