Hi all. Just thought I would throw in my two-cents worth to the group on

the usage of castor oil packs and as an addition to B.'s good

information. First, let me say, I have been using the castor oil packs for

over 30 yrs.

A book, which you may find very, very helpful is " The Edgar Cayce Handbook

for Health Through Drugless Therapy " - 1975 - (still in print and available

thru www.baar.com) written by Dr. Hugh Reilly who was sent actual cases to

treat by Edgar Cayce himself starting in 1930. So, Dr. Reilly was

intimately involved with Mr. Cayce's work and methodology. This has been

my health 'bible' for many years and is coming to pieces, by the way.

Dr. Reilly's instructions for the castor oil packs from the book, pg 245,

which I have taken the liberty of *'modernizing', are as follows:

Materials Needed:

1) 100% wool flannel cloth (do not use cotton flannel nor flannel that has

polyester or nylon). The size depends on the size of the person and the

area to be covered when folded in FOUR thicknesses. It should be large

enough to cover the area involved. (You can use old wool socks, blankets or

underwear, if light colored wool flannel is not available or is too

expensive by the yard.)

For an abdominal pack: On the average person this would be about 10 "

wide x 14 " in length. (*Don't forget the FOUR thicknesses.) For other parts

of the body, the size should be altered but it must always be four

thicknesses of cloth.

2) Plastic sheet - medium thickness (old shower curtain, rubber sheet, or

any waterproof material will do. (*I have found that a large, yard plastic

garbage bag, cut down the side and across the bottom and spread out flat

works great !!)

3) Electric Heating Pad

4) Bath Towel (*Make sure any towels you use are old and disposable

because the odor of castor oil gets in them and never comes out entirely no

matter how many times you wash them. I use/reuse/wash the same old towels

and use them just for my castor oil packs... 1 large and 1 - 2 small hand

towels, the small for wiping my hands or wiping excess oil off my skin.)

5) Two Safety Pins (*I have never had to use these but for ankles or wrists

etc.. I can see the necessity.)

6) Old Plastic Covers (those returned by cleaners are excellent.) ....

(*I use saran wrap.. works just fine.)

*Here, Dr. Reilly recommends warming the oil-soaked flannel in a pan in the

oven. I have never felt the need for such.

Spread the plastic sheet (*plastic garbage bag) on the bed to protect the

bedclothes. Cover with an old towel or cloth. Apply the pack to the area

of the body to be treated. If it is being used on the abdomen for liver or

caecum and ascending colon, be sure to cover the right side as well as the

entire abdominal area. If for the spleen and descending colon, favor the

left side.

Next apply a plastic covering over the soaked flannel cloth. *(soaked but

not totally, otherwise it is real, real messy.) On top of that place a

heating pad turned up to 'medium' and gradually increase to 'high' as the

pack cools. Wrap a towel folded lengthwise around the entire torso and

fasten it with safety pins - big bath or beach towels are excellent for this

purpose. (*I have never had to wrap myself like this??) The pack usually

should remain in place at least one hour, and preferably from one and a half

to two hours.

*(Just an aside.. after the heat has built up, check it often by putting a

finger or two to your skin area being treated. Make sure things aren't

getting too hot. I often turn the pad off & on.. or lower/increase settings

to avoid getting burnt. I have never had a burn but.. do be careful. Try

not to fall asleep.)

The skin should be cleansed afterward by using water prepared as follows

to avoid a rash, which affects some people. To a quart of water, add two

teaspoons of baking soda. Use this to cleanse the abdomen or other treated

area. (*I must be lucky because I have never had to worry with this step.

I just use a hand towel to wipe off any excess oil after treatment.)

Store the pack in a baking pan or ziploc bag and reuse. A pack must never

be washed. Just add additional castor oil as it dries out from use. It can

last for six months to a year. (*I have packs that I have used for years..

no problem.) Make up a pack for each family member and label each for reuse

for the appropriate person. Be sure you use the same pack on the same

person once it is made up to the correct size.

Frequency: For general use it is desirable to use the packs 3 or 4 nights

consecutively, and then not use for 3 nights.

When taking a series of packs, take 2 tsps of olive oil nightly or two

tbs. after the 3rd night. *Ugh! In all these years of use, I have never

been able to bring myself to do this. Makes me gag thinking about it.

" Peyer's patches are lymphoid follicles located in the wall of the small

intestine. They are similar to the tonsils, they 1) destroy bacteria,

preventing them from breaching the wall of the small intestine (which is

technically " outside " the body) and entering the bloodstream. 2) the

generate memory lymphocytes for long term immunity. They are a part of the

collection of lymphoid tissues called MALT, mucosa-associated lymphatic

tissue. "

From the book....pg. 334 " The thymus gland is the master of the immune

system and it has been known for ten years that cells from the thymus

migrate to other portions of the body (such as to the Peyer's patches) and

become centers of lympathic activity.

Peyer's patches are best marked in the young, become indistinct in middle

age and sometimes disappear altogether in advanced life. Cayce readings

suggested that these patches tend to become fewer in number as the body

grows weaker, and that the regular use of castor oil packs over the abdomen

tends to rejuvenate these glands and thus serve as a major factor in the

rejuvenation of the entire body. "

*For those of us with immune/cancer concerns, castor oil packs can be

helpful in boosting our immune system. Otherwise, I have found castor-oil

packs to be wonderfully helpful with sprains, strains, arthritis, cataracts,

etc.

*Any supplies, including the whole castor oil 'kit' can be purchased from

www.baar.com. I have absolutely no affiliation with this company. Their

shipping is rather high but they ship fast..lol. You can also purchase from

http://heritagestore.com/categories-1/castor-oil-therapy.html but they seem

a little pricier than baar.

Any questions, I will try to help if I can.... Lola
