- " punctured my ego... " Hilarious.

So, I will tell you all that acupuncture saved my life. It's true.

Putting a castor oil pack somewhere around my liver did not. :)

But back to acupuncture - Many years ago, something went wrong with my liver. I

didn't know this at the time, of course. The neurological symptoms came on

slowly, but finally I figured out that something was horribly wrong. I made a

list of my symptoms - which was two pages long - and headed to a neurologist.

He ran a battery of tests which had odd results, but since he couldn't really

treat something " odd, " he told me that my symptoms were indeed neurological, but

they were all related to under treated thyroid disease and told me to go see my

endocrinologist (who I really didn't like much, but was well-respected in town.)

As I thought, she was pretty nasty about my situation and refused to give me the

time of day and sent me back to the neurologist. The neurologist said there was

nothing he could do.

At this point, my symptoms were getting worse. I was kind of yellowish (but not

my eyes) and my ankles were so swollen, I couldn't get my socks on.

I went to my chiropractor for my monthly appointment and she literally started

to cry when she saw me. She said, " What have they done to you?? " She said that

drastic times call for drastic measures, and she sent me to an acupuncturist.

I handed the acupuncturist my two page list of symptoms. He grabbed his very

large Chinese medicine book and turned to the page that described some sort of

problem with the liver. All my symptoms were listed on that page - ALL my

symptoms.

One treatment and I was cured. I do believe that what happened is that my liver

was not allowing my thyroid hormone to get to my organs and things were starting

to shut down.

I cannot take Milk Thistle - I am highly allergic. :(

I now live too far away to see this acupuncturist. But after my cancer

diagnosis, I started seeing an ND in a nearby town. He worked at the local

cancer center to provide complimentary treatment. He suggested the castor oil

pack. I tried it. Didn't like it. Didn't feel any different. And it was very

messy. He also did acupuncture, having studied Chinese medicine, but I never

felt that he was as accurate as the previous acupuncturist.

So, that's my story.
