Has anyone had any experience with taking Zometa?

My doctor is wanting to do an infusion. I do have recent mets to liver and

bones.

From what I have read it's indication is to protect the bones from

cancer. I am concerned about side effects of course.

Any feedback I would appreciate.

Beth,

I have had 6 zometa infusions and while the first fewtimes were

very difficult, after about 4 infusions I did not have any

side effects. However, the first few infusions were very difficult

with body aches, major chills, headache, etc. But if you hang

in there it will get easier! My onc told me these side effects

do not happen to everyone, but just in case know that it will

get easier.

I just ead Jillian's post reminding me of an important detail.

The first shot must be given over an hour. hospitals and oncos want to do it in

30 minutes. you must insist. they will charge you extra. pay.

I know many women on Zometa. Some tolerate it quite well, others do not.

My best to you.

It's also possible to use half the usual dose the first time, as a

precaution. Longer infusion is definitely a good idea.

Zometa may have some anti-cancer properties and synergy when used with

chemotherapy, if I remember correctly.

is correct! My first infusion was about

20 minutes. The last few I have I made

them drip it slow, this may have been the

difference between having side effects

and no SEs

In general, I tend to be antidrug, but my understanding (from ) is that

Zometa's usually worthwhile for treating and preventing bone metastasis for

certain types of cancer (such as BC).
